Casting For Young Han Solo Underway? Oh, And Ewan McGregor STILL Hasn't Been Asked Back...

Despite rumours to the contrary, Ewan McGregor reiterates the fact that he has yet to receive a call from J.J. Abrams asking him to return as 'Obi Wan Kenobi' in Star Wars Episode VII. Meanwhile, another report states that casting for a young Han Solo is already underway! Check it out.

According to Bleeding Cool (who have been hit and miss when it comes to information like this), casting may already be underway for a young Han Solo. This would presumably be for the planned spin-off movie featuring either him or Boba Fett which is expected to be released in 2016 between Star Wars Episode VII and Episode VIII. They report that, "casting for a young Han Solo has been happening for a few months now, alongside the casting for Episode VII. A basic description of the character – about as useful as "Han Solo, but young" – was created, agencies listed the role as a situation vacant and actors started to get in line." That's all we have to go on for now, but it certainly seems like a likely enough possibility all things considered. However, one character who may not have any sort of future in the Star Wars franchise moving forward is Obi Wan Kenobi. Despite rumours and speculation to the contrary, Ewan McGregor has once again pointed out that he has yet to be contacted about any sort of role in the J.J. Abrams helmed movie. Come on, Of-course Obi-Wan will be back as a Force Ghost. Anyone who think he wasn't is fooling themselves. Even if they asked him he would of given the same answer. Like George said, they're planning a huge shindig when it comes to the casting announcements.

Much as I'd love to see the early adventures of Han, and as much faith as I'd have in the project by simple virtue of Lucas not being at the helm, I still don't think they should do it. For all the potential lookalikes out there, there's simply no one alive who can channel the raw Harristonforditude of Harrison Ford.

@HAILHYDRA They would replace Sir Alec Guiness as the force ghost since Guiness has passed and couldn't reprise. Just like how they replaced Sebastian Shaw with Hayden Christenson in Return of the Jedi Special Edition.

The idea for a Han Solo movie is just one more disaster for this franchise that really needs something new and fresh after those three big failures. Focusing on a young Solo is stupid and making it live action is even more bone headed. Did Lucas suggest it?

@FrancisHates - Given the rumors and recent news of "origin stories" it's likely that they are already trying to find a young Han Solo for a spin-off. Start the search early so they have time to make sure it will work (although for lots of us, no matter who they find, it will never work).

I would prefer to see a Boba Fett spin-off, and leave Han Solo alone. But I think it's more likely that Disney execs are probably more keen on a Han Solo flick where they will no doubt throw in some Boba Fett action.

@Humby: Yea if this is the case I hope it's for the rumored spin off, and I'd love if they meshed Boba's spin off with Han's. Show how they first meet, and also show us why they hate each other so much.

I think that would be one epic series.

As you said, it doesn't matter who they get...we are still gonna hate him. Same as if they tried recasting Indie. Shits just not going down with most of us.

I hope they don't make a Han Solo-- The Teen Years, like Young Indiana Jones, those were horrible. Do stories based on the original trilogy of books that came out after the original film, late 70s-1980... Han Solo at Star's End, and those.

I hope they do episode VII in a way that completely ignores the prequels. In my mind, the prequels never existed.
