First Trailer For Upcoming Animated Adaptation Of THE LITTLE PRINCE

Mark Osborne (The Spongebob Squarepants Movie) directs this lovely looking take on Antoine De Saint-Exupery's classic children's book. The movie will mix CG & stop motion animation, & features the voices of Rachel McAdams, James Franco, Marion Cotillard, Benicio Del Toro & Ricky Gervais.

Unfortunately you won't hear any of them in this particular trailer, because it's in French! The Little Prince has always been one of my favourite stories, but the slim novella hardly warrants a full-length animated feature. With that in mind, they've added a framing story of a little girl discovering the Prince's earthly adventures with, we assume, the stranded pilot/author as we do in the movie.

The Little Prince stars Riley Osborne as the Prince, Marion Cotillard as The Rose, Rachel McAdams as The Mother, James Franco as The Fox, Jeff Bridges as The Aviator, Benicio del Toro as The Snake, Ricky Gervais as The Conceited Man, Paul Giamatti as The Teacher, Albert Brooks as Businessman, Bud Cort as The King, and Mackenzie Foy as The Girl. The film is set for release in France on October 7th, 2015. No US/UK date has been announced yet.

So we are now covering children's books on this site?

Why does this site give no press to Term Life? It's a great graphic novel and the movie comes out next year.

JoeMomma29, it's an animated movie based on a children's book which has had various comic adaptations. But don't let me keep you from your completely adult orientated fifth watching of a movie about a talking raccoon and a sentient tree.

Hey dont hate on Guardians @Rormachine because your feelings got hurt use a movie like TAS:2 or Maleficent. I got to say though this looks like a pretty insightful movie.

@rormachine - The book was good. The movie is directed by Peter Billingsley. There hasn't been a whole lot of press anywhere about it. But it's crime noir with a comedic cast. So it can go either way.

Oh and the book was written by AJ Lieberman.

Umm, no feelings hurt..just sick of answering the same "what's this doing on the site" type questions over and over again...especially from people who have been members of the community for a while and should know our policy by now.

Why the [frick] is this one the site???

I'm just playing. Never heard of this story, but dat cast tho... Might have to check this out with my 3 year old. He loves pretty much any cartoon, and with that cast, I could probably sit through it.

The format is irrelevant! If there's a comic book out there based on it, and it's sci-fi/fantasy (though that isn't even a fixed rule as we also cover Bond, Bourne etc) then we can cover it. Like the "about us" blurb states, our primary focus will remain true comic book movies (Marvel, DC etc) but there isn't always news on them to cover.
Lemons
Lemons - 12/9/2014, 8:08 AM
I don't mind deviating from news of true comic book movies. I like getting alerted of adaptations that I didn't even know they are even making.

Check out Joann Sfar's brilliant graphic novel adapted from Saint-Exupery's novella. It's beautiful. And it makes this movie comic-book related. Sorta. Besides, for those who are not familiar with the source material, well, it might not what you think it is. The end is bitter-sweet, to say the least. I don't know how it will be handled there, but the original book is not necessarily for children. It is better suited for the inner children of grown men and women.

Been my favorite book since childhood. It shaped my outlook on life. It will always be a boa constrictor digesting an elephant, it will never be a hat.
