GOTHAM Showrunner Confirms 'Red Hood'; Promises A Shocking Finale

Since Gotham is already so packed full of classic Batman villians, fans have been wondering if an incarnation of the Red Hood would make an appearance. Bruno Heller confirms that he'll be showing up in a future episode, and it might signify the show's "costume phase".

Considering the sheer volume of Bat-villains that have either appeared or are scheduled to appear on Fox's Gotham, it was probably only a matter of time before we saw the Red Hood. During an interview with CBR, Bruno Heller was asked if we'd see any character's don costumes over the remaining 10 season 1 episodes, and the writer/producer uses the opportunity to confirm Red Hood's future appearance. "There's going to be an episode that involves the Red Hood, which picks up that strand, the costume strand," he reveals -- but he also says not to expect Gotham to become "a full-on costume drama." Plus, anyone hoping to see some of Batman's more fantasy-tinged villains like Man-Bat or Clayface might be disappointed. "There's the super powers, super will, and there's super strength, but only on a human level. Not on a supernatural level." The Red Hood was originally an alias for the man who would eventually become the Joker, but it's a mantle that's been adopted by several other characters (including former Robin Jason Todd) since. It might be a good opportunity for Gotham to introduce an established character without actually revealing his identity straight away.

As for the season 1 finale? Heller definitely makes it sound like it'll be well worth waiting for. "We'd always planned for the end of the season to be as big and spectacular and as shocking and as frightening and as sensational as it possibly can be. And we're going ahead with that plan." Sounds cool. Really dig this show. Didn't think I would after the complete and utter shit that Arrow was/is, but this show really surprised me.

Now I'd tune in just to see this.

What snyder did with Red Hood in the Year 0 comics was spectacular.

@Fairyemblem -
Anyone whose read GOTHAM CENTRAL will hate this show. Everyone else seems to love it. Its mainly focusing on the non-comic book fan audiences.... They are trying to make it as simplified and easy going for the mass as possible. Which is weakening the writing. I used to like the show UNTIL I read Gotham Central...

This show is good. It's got issues, but it delivers overall. Dumb basement dwelling fanboys gonna fanboys.

@Soforizo I think they can include characters, even allude to certain things like Venom, but I agree for the most part the show should focus on Gordon, the corruption of the city and its officials, the mob families, so forth and so on. Also I would LOVE to see the Court of Owls in this. Maybe never brought out into light by Gordon, but definitely in the "shadows".

I always kinda thought the best for this show to get their Joker fix was to do multiple Red Hood stories (since canonically Red Hood has been the mantle of so many villains) each as a big special episode, and possibly even ending each one with that Red Hood meeting some sort of fate that could possibly make him the Joker.

@soforizo

i never thought about it until now but Gotham would actually be a perfect opportunity to introduce the Court of Owls to live action for the first time. They really ought to consider this

This is a very good show. I like the fact that my girlfriend will also watch and enjoy this show. I am a HUGE comic book fan, and I read every current non-Ultimate or Fantastic Four Marvel Series, and used to read all the DC stuff but now only have time for Batman, so anyone saying only non-comic book fans like this show is an idiot.
sure, I point out to my girlfriend the differences between the show and the comic and how stupid some of the choices are, but this show ONLY becomes a dissappointment if you compare it directly to the comics. if you take the show as a TV show, it is awesome and very good and entertaining, but if you go in hoping for a faithful pre-Batman Gotham story, you will be disappointed.

@JasonBlue - I love Gotham Central, it was insanely good, and Gotham isn't even in the same league as that run. However, I've started to enjoy the show a lot more after excepting it for what it is: a slightly campy, reasonably well produced show with a few standout actors (namely: Logue & Taylor).

Wish we'd been able to see a more honest adaptation of Brubaker's work though. That shit was great.

Man this show is getting badass! Mondays episode was the best one so far n it's only gonna get better. Carmine Falcone choking out Liza (spoiler for those who don't know, sorry) was a badass scene and the rest of the show, amazing this article just made me more exciting can't wait to see what the finale is. Again Gotham haters quit watching if you don't like n if you still watching and complaining then your just as sucked in as I am!

Bullock and Alfred are the only interesting Characters. A good show sometimes, I feel like they didn't need to make this show. Same as the upcoming Krypton.

I think fanboys and fangirls should be collectively happy that this show is making Comic Book TV Shows appealing to the mass audience. Even people who don't watch The Flash or Arrow, are watching Gotham. Heck, even people who don't watch any TV shows- are watching Gotham. Its really truly for them. Once the mass learns and understands Batman's universe and the various villains and characters, DC will be able to do much more in their films. Just as Arrow's Suicide Squad success made the Suicide Squad film a worthy venture.

Even if you dislike the show, you have to admit, visually it's the best CB show we have currently. It's got style.

Season 2 needs to do a time jump. A lot of these characters are too young for what they want to be doing. Every villain shouldn't be 20, 30 years Bruce's senior.
Jump ahead like ten years, Bruce is gone, training.

@mostezli - You know it! ;)

@JamesMann - And what a beautiful moment it was! Enjoyed this week's episode for two reasons: 1) the gang war plot taking centre stage & 2) for playing my second favourite Johnny Cash song.
