Billy Dee Williams Says He Might Return As 'Lando' In Future STAR WARS Movies

Many fans were disappointed that Williams wouldn't be reprising the role of Lando Calrissian in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but the actor has now hinted that he will be back at some point -- perhaps even in the second film of the new trilogy. More past the jump...

The roguish Lando Calrissian was a firm fan favourite character from the original Star Wars movies, so we were all hoping Billy Dee Williams would return along with his castmates Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill for J.J. Abrams' The Force Awakens. Though that wasn't to be, Williams did provide the voice for an animated version of Lando in Star Wars Rebels, and while chatting about that to Cinelinx, he might just have let is slip that it won't be too long before we see him back in all his live-action glory too. The site quizzed Williams about not being asked to appear in The Force Awakens and the resulting fan backlash, and here's how he responded.

"Yeah, people were pretty upset about it. But I uh...I may very well...I have a feeling I’m going to show up. There’s nothing I can really discuss about it at this stage. People think of me as the original cast, but I didn’t come in until the second movie. I did Empire and then I did Return of the Jedi, but I came in after everyone else was introduced...So I think they’re probably proceeding in that way."

Now he might just mean that there isn't anything to discuss yet, or that he does know something but can't talk about it. Has Williams been asked to appear in the second instalment of the new trilogy? Or perhaps he means the spin-off film in between? He certainly sounds confident that we will be seeing Lando at some point anyway, but until we hear something official we'll have to speculate. How do you think Lando should be reintroduced... if at all? Share your thoughts in the usual place.
