GOTG's Dave Bautista Will Play 'The Kurgan' In HIGHLANDER Reboot

There can be only one! Word is that former WWE champ turned actor Dave Bautista (Drax in Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy) has signed on to play the villain in Summit Entertainment's reboot of classic sci-fi/fantasy flick, Highlander.

Latino Review's El Mayimbe just dropped another big casting scoop, which will either excite or annoy you depending on how you feel about the planned remake of Highlander! According to him, the breakout star of Guardians Of The Galaxy is set to play another big, imposing, blade wielding savage -- but one that's a lot more evil-disposed than Drax the Destroyer! The Kurgan (aka Vitor) was an immortal barbarian, played brilliantly by Clancy Brown in the original, who first encounters Connor MacLeod on the battlefield in 16th century Scotland, where he discovers his foe is also immortal. The two meet again for their final battle ("the Gathering") in modern-day New York.

The lead role of Connor is yet to be cast, but last we heard Tom Cruise was being courted for the mentor role of Ramirez (Sean Connery in the original). The movie will be helmed by first-time director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan. This is one of the many planned reboots that most fans wish would just disappear, but would Bautista's involvement change things? Sound off below.

With lots of WWF or now as it's call WWE actors getting in films, I wonder who else will be in blockbusters. Maybe soon some MMA people will be in films too. Onto this subject, great and interesting choice. I thought he did a good job in GOTG. So it is nice to see him getting to be in more movies.

@AlphaPatriotKo - Tom Cruise is horrible. Not only is he annoying as hell but he's a nut job too. Dude should NOT be an action hero at all. Like in Jack Reacher he was totally wrong, if you know about Reacher you know he is a massive man but they got Cruise who is 5ft7 and not intimidating at all. Have no idea why he is considered a good actor...... SMH

Anyway, badass that Batista is landed the role and is on the rise in Hollywood. He'll never be Dwayne Johnson but he's a big SOB and can play tough ass intimidating characters. If you need a hulking brute in your movie he's the person to go too. He's also got that edge I don't think Dwayne has.

@Jollem - gotta say I think Dave was a much better choice for Drax and I am a HUGE Momoa fan (SGA anyone?) though I think Jason is gonna knock Aquaman outta the park. Gonna totally change that notion that Aquaman is a giant pussy.

Glad Bautista gets more roles, he's such a nice guy! :)

I'm not really interested in this reboot though. Well, maybe they'll at least be clever enough to change the story in a way as to not make it a movie that can't have sequels.

They seriously need to make up there minds. Last I heard they put this back on the shelf. As for Batista, he's a horrible choice to play the Kurgan. At least hire someone who is agile and has some depth. The Highlander franchise needs to be taken over by some who has respect for story and can do it justice. The story needs re-worked to help bridge it across a three film platform with fluid continuity. It has great potential as a series, but it has never done better than the first film. The TV series was good from the 2nd season to the 4th, with a few potholes. But once again, it just didn't have a cohesive plot.

Great. Another character that he can ruin... but I have to be honest. He was much better in GOTG than he was in Riddick. Gunn killed Drax, not Batista.

I must be really drunk typing that :)

Original film is terrific. Clancy Brown & Christopher Lambert were awesome.
The Kurgan is a cool bad guy & let's be serious, all you need is a big intimidating guy & Dave fits the bill.
He's proven in GOTG he can do a good acting job in genre films.
He never will be as good as Robert DeNiro or Dainel Day Lewis...this role doesn't call for that much talent.

Ah Highlander and the original Terminator - classic times. Classic music from Queen, few movies have had better, and that scene when MaCloud was drunk having a duel with a french dude hilarious. Mind you it happens, probably looks rubbish to movie goers now hence we get reboots, that a lot of the time just get over produced and loose the charm of their predecessors. Tom Cruise however - he's just Tom Cruise in every movie, man so far from Connery as the Spaniard with a ridiculous Scottish accent. However I did not know there were 4 tv series - guess after one of the poor sequels I lost faith.
