Sigourney Weaver Confirmed For New ALIEN; Will Be “Genetic Sibling” To First Two Films

We know director Neill Blomkamp's next project will be his Alien movie, but now we might have more of an idea of what to expect from it. By the sounds of things Sigourney Weaver will be back as Ripley, and both Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection will be disregarded!

It seems Neill Blomkamp's Alien movie is pulling a Superman Returns and disregarding the final two movies in an established quadrilogy. The only real difference is that, unlike Superman III and IV, the those last two Alien flicks (3 especially) do have their share of fans. It was probably a given that Blomkamp wasn't going to try to find another way (cloning's been done) to bring Ripley back from the dead, but this might not sit too well with those who felt the character already had a proper send off at the end of David Fincher's movie. In the following video interview with both Blomkamp and Sigourney Weaver, it seems pretty clear that the Chappie director plans to weave his own story out of the events of James Cameron's Aliens, and it also sounds like he'll have Lieutenant Ellen Ripley along for the ride.

Man this thing is really starting to get rolling. It's a little surreal in how quick this is happenning. And let's face it, most if us have dreamed a movie that scrapped the last two.

Sounds great to me. If they really wanted to...they could do a television show based off the Alien Isolation game to tie in some things to the movie universe. Alien Isolation could really work as a great series.

I don't know how I feel about them just forgetting 3 and 4 exist...especially 3. I didn't like that they killed Ripley off but it wasn't a BAD movie, and it was a fitting ending to her story really when you think about it.

@DrDoom Alien 3 had some good things, if only the producers didn't meddle with Fincher. Alien Resurrection really [frick]ed it though.

There's a major difference of the quality of a movie when a director is doing it as a passion project over being hired to do it for a pay check. Blomkamp did all of that concept art out of passion not even knowing if it would ever come to anything, and now it looks as though he'll be able to bring that passion to life and as I've said in a previous post, he has the ability to give his sci-fi a sense of real world 'realness' that no other current director can so I think this could be something quite special.

I actually really like Alien3 though, the directors cut is a really underrated film. But honestly I would rather see Blomkamp give us a completely new character. No offense, but I really don't think that Ripley is a character we are meant to see running around in her 60s...

Good. Alien 3 was stupid. Alien 4 was awesome, but not the best it could have been.
