Teaser & Plot Details For Gareth Edwards' STAR WARS ANTHOLOGY: ROGUE ONE Revealed
No more referring to these movies as Star Wars spin-offs or standalone films, as it's just been announced at Celebration Anaheim that they'll officially be known as "Anthology" movies. We also have our first logline for Rogue One, and a recording of the teaser that was screened...
The "Conversations with Josh Trank and Gareth Edwards" panel at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim is currently in full swing (though Trank actually pulled out!), and the Godzilla director just provided plenty of new details on his spin-off movie, Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One. Apparently the story will actually be set before A New Hope, around the same time as the Star Wars Rebels animated series. Edwards confirms that it will be a heist movie, and even provided an official logline: "A band of resistance fighters unite for a daring mission to steal the Death Star plans in Star Wars anthology film, Rogue One."
A brief teaser was also shown featuring a TIE Fighter flying over a jungle landscape, before the camera pans up to reveal the Death Star. The voiceover is Alec Guinness as Obi Wan Kenobi: "The Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic, before the dark times, before the Empire." But, the Jedi won't actually feature in the movie. “It’s about the fact that god’s not coming to save us, and we’re on our own,” said Edwards. “The absence of the Jedi is omnipresent in the film. It hangs over the whole movie.”
Star Wars: Rogue One, written by Gary Whitta and Chris Weitz, will be directed by Gareth Edwards. It’s scheduled for release on December 16, 2016.
