DAREDEVIL Will Return For A Second Season In 2016; But Without Steven DeKnight

Probably not a big surprise given how well the acclaimed Netflix series has done since its premiere, but EW reports that Marvel's Daredevil will be back for a second season next year. The thing is, Steven S. DeKnight won't be returning as showrunner! Find out who'll replace him after the jump...

According to EW, Netflix has renewed Marvel's Daredevil for a second season in 2016. However, the site also reports that Steven S. DeKnight is stepping down as showrunner, and will be replaced by writers Doug Petrie (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Marco Ramirez (Sons of Anarchy). This news is bound to disappoint some, but both Petrie and Ramirez worked closely with DeKnight and Drew Goddard on the first season so it's most likely in good hands.

Fans were (generally) delighted with the first 13 episodes of Daredevil, and will be looking forward to seeing if classic comic characters such as Bullseye and Elektra will be showing up next year. Marvel and Netflix also have A.K.A. Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist shows in the pipeline, and they'll all culminate for The Defenders at some point.

With the first season of "Marvel's Daredevil" proving a smash success with both audiences and critics, Netflix and Marvel will continue to create further adventures of the Man Without Fear! Doug Petrie ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "American Horror Story") and Marco Ramirez ("Sons of Anarchy"), who worked closely with Executive Producers Steven S. DeKnight and Drew Goddard during the first season, will serve as showrunners for Season 2. Petrie, Ramirez, Goddard ("Cabin in the Woods"), and Jeph Loeb ("Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.") will serve as Executive Producers of Season 2.

“While previous commitments unfortunately prevent me from continuing on with Daredevil into its second season," DeKnight explains, "I could not be happier that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are carrying the torch. They were invaluable collaborators during our first season, and I for one can't wait to see what they do with the show moving forward."

I am ecstatic that a second season is on the way but I am disappointed that DeKnight isn't coming back. Here's hoping the show kicks as much ass in 2016 as it did in 2015.

Don't worry guys, he wrote the outline for season 2!

It's bittersweet, but we won't have to wait 2 years for a second season.

so season 2 can focus on The Hand vs. The Chaste and introduce Elektra? YES PLEASE! I kind of want this to get a 2nd season but for AKA Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist to each only do one season going in to Defenders. Iron Fist and Luke Cage should join forces post defenders and do Heroes for Hire. AKA Jessica Jones will cover so much of the meat of Alias in the first season, I'm not sure where they would go in season 2 if it happens before Defenders.

DeKnight has previous commitments. He has a seven year deal at Starz and a sci fi show in the works. I'll miss him but knowing these new guys wrote episodes of season one and worked closely with DeKnight and Goddard Is a positive. Also, Goddard is listed as being an executive producer for season 2. Sons of anarchy is a great show so Ramirez working on there is good...he has great crime drama rootsm Petrie having Buffy roots is great too. Also, Ramirez wrote "Rabbit in a Snowstorm" which was a great episode and "Condemned". Petrie wrote solo "Stick" and co wrote "The Path of the Righteous" and wrote solo " The ones we leave Behind". All good episodes
