Possible Details On Martin Freeman's Role In CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

Though we still don't have a name, we might just have some information on the type of character The Hobbit star will be playing in Marvel's third Captain America movie -- and if you know your comics, it shouldn't be too hard to come up with an educated guess as to who that character could be!

Last night we found out that Martin Freeman (Sherlock, The Hobbit movies) had joined the already pretty well stocked cast of Captain America: Civil War in an undisclosed role. Given the fact that he's... well, Martin Freeman, it seemed unlikely that he'd be playing some kind of established Marvel superhero, so speculation leaned towards some of the supporting human characters from the comics.

Apparently you were on the right track, as in his weekly Marvel column, Latino Review's Dave Gonzalez reveals the following: "Martin Freeman plays some sort of interrogator and he will return to appear in Black Panther." Dave presents that info as fact, but also adds his own speculation.

When the news broke there were a lot of guesses that he might be playing either Henry Gyrich (Government Liaison to the Avengers), or Everett Ross (a Government agent assigned to Wakanda), and Dave also reckons it'll be the latter. Though the comic version of Everett is far from an interrogator, its possible they've simply added that element to his character in an effort to make him seem a little more badass --  if you don't think Freeman can play badass, just watch Sherlock -- but the Wakandan liaison part would obviously tie in with him returning for the solo Black Panther film at least.

That's still just speculation of course, so based on the information above, do you guys have any other ideas?

Wakanda liaison would be cool.

I like how Bruce Banner is a genius but he's never even heard of a country in Africa. He didn't even have a clue how to pronounce it.

If Black Panther has the heavy presence in Civil War as has been suggested, then a Wakandan government agent makes sense.

Lol @ just because your smart you should know right away all about and how to pronounce a foreign nation. Some of the smartest people in the world are socially awkward. Specifically when it pertains to the opposite sex.

Jacuzzi,

Really? You're telling me there's actually a country on this planet that if you read a headline about it in the news you wouldn't have heard of it at some point in your life? And Banner traveled around the world looking for seclusion. Should've just had Hawkeye read those lines. Nobody cares if he sounds stupid.

Whatever character he plays he HAS to have some dialogue with Dr. Strange at some point.

He showed flashes of being able to play a badass on Fargo.

Henry Gyrich was in one of the X-Men films, so he may be owned by Fox.

@blackandyellow

To your first point, yes, I think there are plenty of nations I am unfamiliar with. Continents? No. Countries? Yes.

Now, your second point is stronger. I can see where you're coming from as far sd the seclusion angle, though, he went in the wrong direction.

I'm still finding it hard to believe that we're going to have David Tennant, Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch in the MCU... great British talent! :)

One of the problems with marvel movies its we already know almost everything about any movie 1 year before the release, how much did we know about batman vs superman before the trailer, who is the second villain?, all those actors portraying who ?, easter eggs?,just saying secrecy is better for movies

WATCH FARGO! He can do badass, unhinged and scary very well!!! Knee I was some iteration of everett ross. Nice to see they're planting seeds for BP and amassing a great cast for It. Seems like BP will deal with Wakanda being discoverEd by the rest of the world. Mayne Freeman's character is the bridge between wakanda and america.
