If you've never seen John Carpenter's Big Trouble In Little China (1986) it's well worth checking out. It's a fairly bonkers mix of fantasy, horror, comedy and adventure, and remains a true original after all these years. Now we have word that a remake is in the works at 20th Century Fox, and it looks like Dwayne Johnson will take on the role of Jack Burton (Kurt Russell in the original), "an All-American trucker who gets dragged into a centuries-old mystical battle in San Francisco’s Chinatown."

The script will be written by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz (X-Men: First Class, Thor, the upcoming Power Rangers reboot) and Johnson will produce along with his partners Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia.

What do you guys think of this news? Is a remake a good idea? Sound off in the usual place.

Sacrilege. It was bound to happen with the state of the film industry these days, but this is actually the first time I have cared enough to say NO THANKS. The original is a personal favorite. China is HERE, Mr. Burton. (not in a remake).

A remake of a perfect movie? You know what ol' Jack Burton always says at at time like this?

Personally I think a sequel would be better. Much like Fury Road, if you don't want the original, recast.

With the right writer/director - and a role for Kurt Russel - I could see this working.

Stop! Immediately! I love this movie too much for them to let the Rock ruin it...

@MisterBabadook

I just posted that this could be fun - but then I saw your post: yer absolutely right, a sequel could end up being better than a remake.

Love the original. Rocks a decent actor but im not sure about this yet. Some classic movies just werent meant to be remade due to time period and other reasons but I will wait to hold judgement.
