STAR TREK BEYOND Begins Production; Zachary Quinto & Zoe Saldana Get Into Character

Production on the third (well, really the thirteenth) Star Trek movie has commenced in Vancouver, and a couple of cast members have posted some snaps to their social media accounts. See Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana get made up as Spock and Uhura after the jump...

The new Star Trek movie (not officially subtitled "Beyond" yet but it's looking likely) began shooting in Vancouver today, and we have some pics of two of the returning cast members getting into character. For Zoe Saldana that means getting her Uhura hair done, but Zachary Quinto has to endure a slightly more extreme makeover to become Mr. Spock. Say goodbye to those 'brows for a while Zach.

Justin Lin has taken over from J.J. Abrams as director, working from a script by Simon Pegg (Scotty) and Doug Jung. Confirmed new cast members includes Idris Elba and Sofia Boutella. Apparently the production's codename is "Washington."

Oooo -- didn't realize Idris Elba was going to be in this. NOW I'm excited.

(Also, Sofia Boutella was cool in Kingsman...)

Wonder if Pine will make it Comic-Con if he's too busy filming this. That is if he is indeed playing Hal Jordan. I sure hope he is!

Chris Pine would've been better as Flash than Miller.

Title is kind of cliche and tired. Why not Star Trek:something haha. Most of the films have used the : symbol so.....

For anybody who has seen the first episode of True Detective season 2, can you tell me if Justin Lin's direction has changed or improved in any way at all? All I know him from is F&F, and I'm wary of how he's gonna differentiate this movie from JJ Abrams'.

Rewatched Into Darkness the other day. Didn't hate it, but didn't love it either - it's entertaining but flawed.

The 2009 movie on the other hand is one of my favourite movies of recent times. If Beyond is anything like that I'll be incredibly happy.

Pet peeve: Still hating the lack of colons in these titles. It's setting my OCD on fritz.

@MARVELPSYCHO79 - Totally agree. Loved Bana, but Cumberbatch's performance as the villain was the one thing I thought the sequel improved on the first film

I prefer Into Darkness over the 2009 film but I can see why it's the other way around for a lot of people. it's just hard to compete with a performance like Benedict's

Once again DrDoom is right. I think I contracted Syphilis around that time. Star Trek gave me that STD. Not that fat chick who worked at Target.

I wouldn't have ran into the blobular arms of that fat chick if I wasn't vulnerable due to those atrocities I witnessed.

I just would love to see a good exploration story. Hell interstellar worked and it didn't need giant ships or laser fights.

If you look at wrath of Khan or undiscovered country, the best parts weren't the battles...
