According to Vixen Varsity, the CW Seed’s upcoming Vixen animated series has found its star in the form of Megalyn Echikunwoke - who will voice the character of Mari McCabe and possibly even reprise the role in live action on Arrow, The Flash or Legends of Tomorrow if the six-part series is successful.

Vixen will of course exist within the same universe as these shows, and feature the likes of Stephen Amell, Emily Bett Rickards, Grant Gustin and Carlos Valdes bringing life to the animated incarnations of the characters.

The first footage from the show will screen this month as SDCC, and you can check out the official synopsis below.

"Originally from Africa, Mari McCabe’s parents were killed by local greed, corruption, and wanton violence. But the orphaned Mari refuses to succumb to the terrors surrounding her. Inheriting her family’s Tantu Totem, Mari can access the powers of animals-anything from the super-strength of a gorilla to the speed of a cheetah. As Vixen, she fights valiantly to protect the world from threats like those that claimed her family. This six-episode series debuting on CW Seed this fall, featuring the voices of Stephen Amell (Arrow), Grant Gustin (The Flash), Emily Bett Rickards (Arrow), and Carlos Valdes (The Flash)."

Possibly because, contrary to popular belief, RDJ isn't a comic book...

It seems kind of random for the CW to be doing an animated series. I mean I'm not complaining, it's just ... y'know, odd.

An African woman with the power of a gorilla and speed of a cheetah based on the ancient magic of her homeland. Should she have the boxing power of a kangaroo? Now THAT would be some silly shit.

Anyways, the actress looks both beautiful and powerful. Almost exactly as I would imagine Vixen to look like. Fingers crossed that she's another unexpected acting dark horse like Grant Gustin.

I don't really like the "various powers of various animals" DC characters like Beast Boy, Animal Man, and Vixen. It reminds me of those kids who play superhero who pick the power to "have any power they can think of". It's way too abstract for my tastes. A cheetah isn't fast because it has some Platonic "essence of fast", but because of it's particular anatomical arrangement. Same thing with pretty much every animal. We're all made of basically the same stuff, it's just the percentages and structures that make the difference.

I'd much prefer a more generalized augmentation (healing, speed, strength, and so on) based on altered biology. Of course, I never really liked most of the quasi-mystical DC approach to stuff like this. "Morphogenetic Fields" and "Speed Forces" make me cringe every time.

But as a character, she was great in the DCAU.

@The Ambassador,

Nobody gives a f.uck about RDJ and a Pinocchio movie.
More bullshit like The Judge from his and the wifey's new production company.

Wait...what's CW Seed?

And if this is on par with DC's other animated movies/ series, it could be really good.

@TheAmbassador the Pinocchio movie has been in development for some time. And usually when such things are posted users complain that source material isn't a comic book.

I literally just googled her the other day to see what she was up too.
I really enjoy seeing her on screen, her voice is a good fit.

Vixen is a great character, I'd love to see a live action movie - we'll see how Black Panther does and hopefully they'll be discussions of s Vixen solo outing.

I think her skill set is cool, in no way overpowered - her powers are subtle but effective. In a TV setting I could see her in procedural type show using her skills to track down criminals. Would be cool.

My ex gf is best friends with her and when we first started dating accused me of wanting to sleep with her because I followed her on instagram. I remember saying you mentioned a friend named Meg once. why should I think that the hot chick from the cancelled shoe 4400 I liked is your friend? Still irks me to this day. she's still hot though lol

I'm totally with you, there. Mystical characters are great when used cleverly, but too often they're the Get Out Of Jail Free card in the writer's toolbox.

Amd the Speed Force is The Worst. The Flash, especially Barry, should be all about science, and using an understanding of physics to best apply his powers. There are better ways of explaining things like why his shoes don't catch fire or how he isn't always covered with squished bugs. The Speed Force is the writer's equivalent of shouting "Hey, look over there!" and running away. I think it's the Speed Force that lets Superman fly, too.

@ Rexdart & Spock:

Both of you are totally off base, when it comes to the Speed Force. The SF is not some sort of Deus ex Machine. It's basically the Black Hole effect that os seen in the movie INTERSTELLAR. It's actually quite scientific. And no, Superman's ability to fly is not based on the SF.

And, the Morphogenetic fields (the Green & the Red) that Swamp Thing also accesses, it's never depicted as being all-powerful. In fact, it's quite capricious for those that wield those powers.

Yeah, I much rather preferred Vixen dating Bronze Tiger, who was a really interesting character. I also liked BT's politics as well.

"Both of you are totally off base, when it comes to the Speed Force... It's actually quite scientific."

I've not seen Interstellar, but I'm assuming you're talking about time dilation. If the Speed Force was just time dilation, then the Flash would age at an accelerated rate, require constant food resources while at high speeds (not just comically large meals), gravity being weaker (squared) at higher speeds, and probably a dozen other qualities that are essentially trying to balance out an impossible equation.

From the comics I've read, the Speed Force is a limited resource (Flash and Zoom share it, so when one uses it, the other has less of it), and seems to operate on a "whatever the writer says" basis, as long as it also creates lightning effects.

And besides, we weren't even really talking about the Flash. We were talking about Vixen's weird "I can have the mass of an elephant, now I can have the speed of a cheetah, now I can have the flight of a bird" power like Megaman at a zoo.
