'Metallo' Would Have Been The Main Villain Of A MAN OF STEEL Sequel

Remember all those rumors about John Corben, AKA Metallo, being one of the villains of Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice? Well, they may have materialized because Zack Snyder WAS going to use him before it was decided that the Dark Knight would be added to the mix...

Back when everyone was still speculating about which DC supervillains would show up in Batman V Superman, one of the more persistent rumors pointed to Metallo: the cyborg with a kryptonite power source who would obviously prove a pretty tough challenge for Supes. When it was announced that Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) would be the main baddie all talk of Metallo seemed to fade away, but it turns out there may have been some truth to the rumors... just in relation to a different incarnation of the movie!

While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, director Zack Snyder reveals that before the follow up to Man Of Steel became a Batman/Superman flick, John Corben was going to feature. "I remember talking about 'What's the next villain?'" Snyder told the mag. "'We can't do another alien invasion.' Brianiac was definitely down the road. Metallo, I think, was going to be the main bad guy of this movie." At least we now know Metallo is on Snyder and WB's radar, so there's a good chance he will be utilized in a future movie.

That character would have worked very well if Snyder was setting out to make a direct sequel to Man Of Steel, but of course when the Caped Crusader was added, most people stopped looking at the eventually titled Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice that way - and as it turns out, one of the film's stars is on the same page. "As far as the individual character is concerned, this is not a Superman sequel," explained Henry Cavill. "It's more of an introduction to Batman, an opening to Justice League, and an expansion of the world that was created in Man of Steel."

@Darktower

A Batman villain when Superman and Wonder Woman are present? lol nope

Last time Snyder played coy about a villain he lied about Zod being in MOS

They'll probably use Metallo here and save Brainiac for the Superman solo

No need to use a Superman villain for Justice League

I'll lmao if there's no "second villain" in this

Although If Batman has a mech suit with kryptonite odds are it's probably Metallo

WB plan to postpone Man of Steel sequel and give us BvS movie instead seems like a very good plan. I guess they knew there is a risk MOS2 won't make as much money as MOS and even if it does it won't be a smashing box office hit.

As far as the individual character is concerned, this is not a Superman sequel," explained Henry Cavill. "It's more of an introduction to Batman, an opening to Justice League, and an expansion of the world that was created in Man of Steel." -

i guess Cavill clariy that one. It's more like a spinoff movie.

Metallo as the villain for sequel ? Guess we would have two villains (Lex and Metallo) in that movie. Kinda bland way to go if you ask me.

Awesome that Snyder understands the importance of doing something different the next time out.

And I don't know why he keeps trying to put emphasis on BvS not being a Supes sequel. If the events of BvS take place after MOS, and BvS is affected by the events of Man of Steel, welp, looks like a sequel to me- especially since it will most likely be watched in that order. Also, its unlikely that an MOS sequel would simply be called Man of Steel 2. I'd be surprised. Were in the age of the epic subtitle now.

Either way. Can't wait. BvS echoing off Suicide Squad in the same universe. Should be fun.

Metallo in a MOS2 would be dope, but since Batman is fighting Superman with a kryptonite armored mech suit, that would come off as a little redundant to me.

As long as BvS won't resemble "Public Enemies" where Lex Luthor was hamming it and acted like some crazy person (he even kissed Amanda) ... then i'm all in.

@gentlemanlybatman if you are hoping for superman to ever become a big time box office draw like spider-man, batman, or more recently iron man I wouldn't hold my breath. The character while no doubt iconic is just not well designed to sell and the dark and gritty direction that Snyder has gone with him might actually make him an even harder sell to audiences. The truth of the matter is that when Snyder removed the more light and hopeful elements from the story, he cut right into the core audience for superman which is families, specifically those with kids. Any direct sequels to Man of Steel will probably top out at the kind of money The Winter Soldier made and that's if they get stellar reviews.

@Bulldawg2014

That doesn't make much sense when Man of Steel was the highest grossing Superman movie, even with being a reboot. It already made more than the first two Iron Man films and just made a little less than Spider-Man's most recent film. There's plenty of time for BVS and MOS2 to raise him to that box office atom bomb like Batman and that's with the stigma that Superman is a lame character so many kids place on him.

@jamesmann yeah man of steel grossed higher than the previous ones but that owed a lot to the superhero hype train post avengers and because no one was sure what they were getting. At the end of the day though reactions to Man of Steel were definitely mixed. I know people who hate it and I know people who love it and the numbers are about equal. This take on superman is controversial, there's no denying that. And as far as the spider-man comparison he is the most marketable and profitable super hero in existence bar none. Spider-mans overall revenue from films, merchandise, and comics over the last four years dwarfs batman and superman combined. A bad spider-man movie, with no positive buzz made nearly 800 million. If the marvel sony collaboration works the fist movie will Probably easily clear a billion. And as far as kids finding superman lame I honestly feel like it's the other way around. Kids love him but he doesn't tend to resonate as much with a lot of adults. The problem then arises that when you take such a popular character and write him into a corner where he ahs to graphically snap someones neck on screen that you risk alienating and scarring a large portion of that child audience because you've removed the hope, light heartedness, and boy scouty qualities they associate with the characters. I don't hate man of steel and I wasn't super upset about the neck snap. It's just not a movie I felt compelled to watch again after the first time.
