ANT-MAN Director Points Out Where We Should Look For Those Easter Eggs

With Ant-Man set for release this weekend, director Peyton Reed has decided to be a great sport and tell audiences where they should be looking for the easter eggs. Some are obvious, others quite difficult to spot, and I'm going to add one he doesn't mention!

In just a few days we can all sit down to enjoy Marvel's latest in the theater - and even though you might think you've seen the whole movie in clip form at this stage, there are still a few surprises here and there. Peyton Reed sat down with Collider and pointed out the scenes in the film which audiences should be paying particular attention to. I'm not going to elaborate on anything he says because it would spoil things completely, but I will add in another little reference at the end that I haven't seen anyone else share yet which might be considered a slightly bigger SPOILER.

"I think anytime you’re in Hank Pym’s beautiful, Victorian house in San Francisco, you want to look around the room. You might notice certain details that sort of talk abut his history and his experimentation with the Pym particle. There might some miniaturized objects all around the room.

When newspapers appear on screen, there are a couple newspapers that appear. There’s a main thing when I do an insert of a newspaper that you want to look at for a story. There also might be some other things in the margins of that newspaper that are interesting.

There’s an event that happens to Scott Lang in the third act of the movie. He goes into a place that’s been unseen in any motion picture ever before, and when he goes into that place – I don’t think Scott Lang sees it, but if you’re sharp, if you’re a keen, sharp audience member you might see something or someone in that environment."

So there you go - remember to keep those peepers peeled. The final tidbit is really more of a not-that-subtle reference than an easter egg and I'm surprised nobody else has picked up on it yet, but right at the end of the movie when Falcon is trying to track down Scott he asks his contact if she knows anyone with a specific power set. She replies, "we got a guy who swings, we got a guy who crawls up walls, what exactly are you looking for?" I might be paraphrasing a tad, but that's the gist. She's clearly talking about Silver Surfer!

Thanks for the heads up. But I think I'll watch it first and then look for the Easter eggs when I watch it again. I like Easter eggs, its just when I watch a movie for the first time. I give it my undivided attention. Sometimes I don't even touch my popcorn or soda if I'm that into a movie.

Saw the film. It's great. Loved the MCU connections and easter eggs. The Spidey one was especially exciting.

Also the quote is "We got guys who can jump, guys who can swing and guys who can crawl up walls!" If I'm not mistaken.

I really, really liked the characters. Scott Lang is good but he's surrounded by great supporting characters; Hank Pym and Hope are complicated, and Darren Cross gets really entertaining towards the end. I also loved Michael Peña's Louis, really good comedic stuff there.

I am sick of people saying along the lines that they want to save their money for something else and will see it when it comes on one of the movie channels or something. I think this hilarious, because all it indicates is that these people are poor as hell. What you can't afford $8.50, by you will buy that burger combo at greasy McDonalds or that pack of cigs. Gosh, yes I am not going to see the movie, but that is because of that cheesy train scene. But come on if you are posting on this site you have a computer or smartphone with an expensive plan, but yet $8.50 is too much? I have seen 3 movies in the last 4 weeks and I haven't missed my mortgage payment.

Whu? Why would they be talking about Silver Surfer. They can't show him. Fox has him.

Yeah, sorry, I'm just not getting it. What do jumping, swinging or wall crawling have to do with surfing?

How does swinging and crawling on walls refer to the Silver Surfer? And why would they want to refer to him when Fox presumably still owns the film rights and Disney/Marvel is doing everything they can to pretend that FANTASTIC FOUR no longer exists?

@RorMachine: I don't get the Silver Surfer reference?

"We have a guy who swings."

Wouldn't that be a crossover DC reference for Allen Scott?

Its amazing how a Ant-Man movie( a character that was boring and didn't had many fans) is way better than Avengers:Age of Ultron.

@Mankzin2: You have a valid point, but where do you live that you can see a film on opening weekend for eight bucks? The local second run discount cinema just got Age Of Ultron, so I may be seeing it a second time for $5 soon. I usually try to avoid opening weekend crowds but I make an exception for Ant-Man. I've only been waiting, what, nine years?

BTW....

I'm still deciding if I loved it more than GotG or not - yeah, I found it that good.

Some highlights - non-spoilery - I'd note after watching the film:

- Young Hank Pym - I don't know if it's the 3D (which I don't enjoy a lot) or not, but this is the 1st time I see a digital person and didn't find it a bit weird. It was perfect, I don't have idea on how they did it.
- Hank Pym in general. Dude, Douglas is so good here, he's like a mastermind.
- Hope is badass and you'll look forward to her.
- The emotional scenes of Scott with his daughter, struggling to be a good guy. It was well made and fit the story.
- The microscopic scenes. Are simply beautiful and you'll want more, more and more of them.
- ANTS are important and great co-stars! You'll feel moved by the loss of an ant, then feel weird because of it.
- Microverse will blow your mind, specially towards the end.
- Good villain.
- Slight reference to Spider-Man, keep your ears sharp.
- Extra scenes (2 of them) are great, the 1st is satisfying, the 2nd is unexpected and makes you wonder what's coming next (despite being quite obvious).
- Michael Peña. Man, that guy is great. He's NOT Darcy, I guarantee. Yes, he's funny and yes, he's a comic relief, but it's the character himself who's funny, it doesn't feel forced on you, at least I felt it this way.
- The Avengers thing is both awesome and hilarious, plus having future implications.
