Possible Details On The International Incident That Kicks Off CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

The official Captain America: Civil War synopsis mentions "another international incident" that fractures the Avengers and results in the MCU version of the Superhero Registration Act (probably "The Accords") being implemented. Click for some potentially huge SPOILERS...

Remember when Cap and Falcon find Bucky in the Ant-Man post credits scene and Rogers mentions that "The Accords" won't allow Iron Man to give them any assistance? Well it's being speculated that this is going to be the Marvel Cinematic Universe's equivalent of the Superhero Registration Act from Mark Millar's Civil War comic book. In the comics, the catalyst for this act being implemented is the New Warriors wiping out over 600 civilians in an attempt to subdue the supervillian known as Nitro, which became known as "the Stamford Incident".

So what will be the Captain America: Civil War version of this devastating event? According to Heroic Hollywood, it involves Cap (Chris Evans) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) going up against Crossbones (Frank Grillo), who just happens to be wearing a suicide vest packed full of powerful explosives!

"In order to protect the civilians on the ground, Captain America orders Scarlet Witch to levitate Crossbones above ground. She does and unfortunately is unable to contain the massive explosion that sets off near a populated building causing death and destruction."

Nasty business indeed. We've seen the set pics of Evans and Grillo engaging in fisticuffs and we know Olsen was snapped in the area, so that would sync up with the details above. We've also heard that Grillo's Crossbones wouldn't have that much to do in the movie and that also fits - unless he somehow survives the explosion.

What do you guys think?

Sounds badass and a bit bittersweet if true.

Rumlow creates a suicide suit so the Avengers can't touch him (unless they had Jeremy Renner's bomb specialist character from THE HURT LOCKER). Maybe it was Zemo's idea. Scarlet Witch can't mitigate the damage, hysteria ensues.

inb4 the WHY KILL CROSSBONES hate.

This some deep shit!!!!! I love it. It's a great, grounded and different variation on the new warriors incident. Explains Crossbones bulky armor

I really like it, part of the big appeal for me in this movie is to see how the Russo's and the writers do their spin on the characters. One of them in particular Scarlet Witch because she is very much whedon's baby and the russo's have a more grounded approach, love seeing her colorfully visual powers in a political thriller style of a film. Plus, they did Fury so differently from everyone else and actually gave him his best appearance, so I'm curious as to where they take Iron man, hopefully closer to the first iron man stark.

Im gonna go on a limb and say maybe this is not true... What a waste of Cross Bones if it is true.

@drchimrichalds the MCU has touched on terrorism before in the first Iron Man movie, don't see why they would avoid it now.

The question would be, though....why is there only Captain America and Scarlet Witch going up against Crossbones? Where's War Machine, Falcon, Vision and Black Widow?

Three things:

1) This is from El Maybe, so probably not true.

2) I'd hate to see Marvel waste Crossbones like this, but they do have a track record of killing off great villains unceremoniously.

3) I suspected that Crossbones is involved in the "incident" but I didn't think he would die because of it.

"inb4 the WHY KILL CROSSBONES hate."

It will have been 13 films...no need to question why MCU kills a villain now.

Would've rather they use a throw away character for a kamikaze scene... a Villain like Arsenal or something. But I guess the MCU has used enough Robot/Mech Suit villains.

But we need Crossbones (and Agent 13) to assassinate Cap. I doubt he'd kill himself.

If that's the case, then Crossbones is going to be in it for like 10 minutes before he's toast. I actually would rather not have a villain in this movie at all. Put the focus on the Iron Man vs Cap dynamic and have the conflict be a clash of ideals rather than another "good guys vs bad guys" movie. They have an opportunity here to do something different, where both parties could be perceived as right or wrong and letting the audience align themselves to decide on their own who THEY think is the "good guy" or the "bad guy". That was the point of the original comic, really.

@ckal

Scarlett Witch is on team America because Tony's weapons were why her and QS hated the avengers.

@DrChimRichalds

They sorta knew the side effects of Extremis, that's why that one dude in the beginning of the film wanted to get his "fix" to not blow up.
