STAR WARS: J.J. Abrams Talks 'Captain Phasma'; Plus New Pics Of Her Awesome Armor

Here's a few tidbits we missed from D23. After the presentation, the Star Wars: The Force Awakens director chatted a little about what he feels Gwendoline Christie will being to the role of the villainous Captain Phasma. We also have some detailed new shots of her striking armor...

While we are beginning to learn a little more about the new characters that'll populate Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the movie's release date looms ever closer, one in particular has remained shrouded in mystery - in fact, we've yet to even see her without that chrome helmet on. We know Captain Phasma is a First Order villain, we know she'll be played by Game Of Thrones' Gwendoline Christie, and we know she sports some damn cool armor, and that's about it.

While speaking to the press after the D23 Star Wars presentation, J.J. Abrams... didn't actually reveal anything else about Phasma! Instead, he spoke about the actress playing her and what she brought to the role, and it sounds like he was very pleased with her work. Collider also snapped a few nice close-ups of that awesome armor.

"I can only say that Gwendoline Christie is my favorite. She just killed it. You think, “Well, what? she's wearing a costume.” But it’s a lot to wear and to have a performance when you’re wearing that requires a different kind of skill set and an additional talent, and she’s got it. It’s an incredible thing to work with her. I am glad that a character has been designed that is visually as stunning as that is, because she deserves it and the fans do to. When I first saw that design my mind was blown because it looked so undeniable."

I like it but I feel like they could've altered the costume slightly from Storm troopers, but then again I know nothing about this characters or the events that happen after episode VI.

The detailing is so awesome. It's Boba Fett meets Darth Vader meets Storm Troopers.

Captain Phasma >>> Boba Fett.

Christie is going to own this role. She's incredible in Game of Thrones, and she'll be badass in Star Wars too. Here's hoping she lasts through all 3 movies.

@MexicanSuperman I'm sure Phasma will be better used than Fett, but the one-shoulder cape, utility belt, and breastplate are all Boba Fett design elements.

Rumor is it won't be her in the suit. So I hope she gets some proper screen time. between that and Lupita being a motion capture character I'm a bit disappointed.

I hope they don't kill off cool characters, vilians, in one film like the prequels did. The only threatening character of those crappy films was Maul. Of course, if he'd made it to the next film, perhaps his silent acrobatic schtick would have gotten old. I dunno. Those movies never exist in my mind

I wonder if they actually have a 3-film arc planned out at this point, or if they're just going to introduce the characters and see where it goes. I like the secrecy surrounding the next two films (and this one, while we're at it!), but it gives me the impression that they're just winging it.

POTENTIAL SPOILERS

Rumor is that Phasma doesn't do much in this film and survives. Apparently the only villain to buy it this time around is General Hux, in keeping with the Moff Tarkin parallels.

Empire spoiler: Bet she's the mother of one of the heroes.

And has anyone guessed that Lando is Boyega's father, yet? Maybe they'll explain Billy Dee's absence by having him die in a flashback. I reckon Leia cheated on Han with Lando et voila! ; Boyegaman. Or whatever they call him.

Now Han's kid could be either Daisy Ridley or Oscar Isaac. Isaac has said that he is taking over the roles of both Skywalker and Han, so... Leia and Han's kid.

Who knows, right?

Hope the flick don't suck balls.
