Christopher Nolan Will Direct An Untitled Warner Bros. Movie For A Summer 2017 Release

Yes, that's literally all we know! It's been announced that Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight trilogy, Interstellar, Inception) will direct a mysterious film for Warner Bros. that's been set for a July 21, 2017 release. Is there any chance it could it be a comic book movie?

Christopher Nolan has decided to continue his relationship with Warner Bros., and direct his next film for the studio - we just don't know what it'll be called yet. In fact, all we do know is that it'll be released on 21st of July, 2017, one week before Marvel and Sony's Spider-Man reboot, and the same day as Pitch Perfect 3 and Luc Besson‘s Valerian. Hard luck guys.

Nolan's films are always shrouded in secrecy but without so much as a title to go on, speculating on the plot of this one is pretty much impossible. Fans of the director's acclaimed Batman movies will be hoping it's something comic book related, but that would seem unlikely given Nolan's past comments about concentrating on original projects from here on out.

One thing is for sure: whatever it's called, whatever it's about, it's going to be big!

It'd be incredible if it turned out to be a period piece. I've always hoped he'd return to that after The Prestige.

Either way, I hope it's an original project and that he goes a bit small-scale with it. Nolan's at his absolute best when the script is as tight and focused as possible. The Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar (to an extent) show that he can get into a bit of trouble when he tries to do too much.

He's making a dark and gritty, grounded in reality remake of I dream of Genie.

Closest postmodern Spielberg - and that's not a delusion. He's an absolute emblem on filmmaking and I'll never understand why some can't appreciate how he constructs relatively smart and provoking - to the truest sense - blockbusters.

Obligatory Nolan hater comment.

No, but seriously, Nolan sucks. He's garbage. His best movies have little to do with him, and a lot to do with the producers, co-writers, actors and crew that worked with him.

Yeah it's highly unlikely... but you never know. If he read a script that excited him enough, he might have been persuaded.

Of course people will say Nolan sucks.

He's one of the most recognized directors of the past decade and with that acclaim comes the loud naysayers.

MrCBM56 - 9/8/2015, 6:55 PM
@RorMachine Maybe, but I'm sure if he read a script he'll have to rewrite it to incorporate his own ideas and or themes. that's what he did to Interstellar
MrCBM56

I'll never understand how some people believe TDKR and Interstellar straight up suck but even then, if out of so many films you pick those as his worst, you're proving everybody's point when they say he's one of the best working directors currently.

Yawn. It wouldn't be a comic book movie so I'll keep my interest at bay...

The Prestige, Momento, BB, TDk and Inseption are classics imo. TDKR is really flawed but rewatchable. Interstellar was a beautiful turd

I think my favorite Nolan film is still Memento

On the one hand July is a very important month. On the other hand its one week from Spider-Man so I question how big its going to be. Spider-Man is going to swallow up everything else.

I don't understand it, either. Rises was my favourite film of 2012, and Interstellar was my favourite film of 2014.

Actually The Prestige is an amazing movie too

Memento and Prestige may be my favorites above all

It's goibng to be the best movie of 2017, and its going to get snubbed at the Oscars.

TDK, Prestige, and Memento were my favorites. There's no way it's a CBM one month after Wonder Woman. Why would WB do that? Btw, Wonder Woman could get slaughtered that year. Toy Story 4 and Despicable Me 3 sandwiches.

And even though this has no title, no plot, no cast, nothing, I'm excited for anything Nolan does. I've practically bought a ticket already.

@RorMachine - "Yeah it's highly unlikely... but you never know. If he read a script that excited him enough, he might have been persuaded."

Nolan wrote the film's script.

However, your point still applies because it could've been an idea for a CBM that persuaded him and peaked his interest.

Time will tell.
