Natt Wolff may have lost out on the role of Peter Parker to Tom Holland, but he's being lined up to star as Light Yagami (expect a name change there) in Warner Bros.' live-action take on popular Manga/Anime, Death Note.

This adaptation does seem to be sticking fairly close to the source material with its basic premise, however, as Variety report that Wolff will play "a student who discovers a supernatural notebook that allows him to kill anyone simply by writing the victim’s name. A cat-and-mouse game ensues when he’s tracked by a reclusive police officer."

Death Note will be directed by Adam Wingard from a script by Jeremy Slater (Fantastic Four), with Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Jason Hoffs and Masi Oka on board as producers. The movie is set to commence production next Spring.

If they need to whitewash the movie, the Nat is a good choice.

Unfortunate WHITEWASH, but he's a good actor at least. Adam Wingard is prime to become a directing superstar. He's given us underrated gems like The Guest and You're Next

There's already a live action Death Note movie, and it's even been dubbed in English. But I guess we need a whitewashed script from the guy who brought us the blockbuster hit Fant4stic.

DeathNote has an incredible story, but Light is supposed to be a top tier human in intelligence, athletics, and looks. He's supposed to have an extreme level of confidence. I just can't get that vibe from this actor. Hopefully I'm wrong though.

Can't really see him as Light, but then again I'm just basing that on appearance.

I don't think this is white washing. The characters just have to be high school students and local police or FBI. Akira on the other hand the title character has to be Japanese and why would it take place anywhere where people aren't named akira

I heard he didn't get the role because he couldn't do a back flip.

I didn't know for this adaptation. This one is pretty "easy" to adapt I think. Maybe our first good manga/anime hollywood adaptation?

This is some serious bulls.hit! Everyone knows Light Yagami is black! Hollywood why you so raciest?!

On a serious note. Should've just gone with an Asian actor.

@NightsKing The Guest has such a cool 80s vibe to it. Lile a mix of 80s horror and Alfred Hitchcock. The soundtrack rivals GOTGs in my opinion. It's one of my fave films ever.

Wingard has no problem going dark as you mentioned. He also nakes his dark content very stylized, which I like. He's getting, prob, the biggest budget he's ever gotten with Death Note. I think we could get a horror classic here as well as the best anime American adaptation that will set a precedent for future adaptations like Akira and Ghost in the Shell.

How are they gonna do the Shinigami? They are gods of death, they are an aspect of Japanese religion and culture.

You know what would be cool? If they had cast a talented Asian American actor for the lead role. Surely we have some in this country.....SIGH.

Also, I thought The Guest was that shifty looking movie with Joel Edgerton. It's got Dan Stevens? What the hell how did I not know? Man gotta check it out now!

Is his last name still going to be Yagami?

I kind of liked this year's live-action tv adaptation. Well, up until Light started turning into Golem near the end there.

@Fornication

"The live action movies sucked. All of them. Death Note, if ever adapted to live action, should be a series and not a movie."

It was a live-action series. This year. It just finished it's 11 episode run last month.

Only thing is, they turned Mellow into Near's second personality-because 11 episodes and no season 2.
