Update On THE FLASH Movie Script; Separate DC Film & TV Universes Confirmed (Again)

It's been stated numerous times of course, but in a new interview producer Charles Roven dashes any hope for some kind of DCEU and television crossover. He also offers a brief update on the status of Seth Grahame-Smith's script for The Flash's big screen outing. More past the jump...

It always seemed fairly obvious that Warner Brothers had no plans to amalgamate their TV and movie universes, but after the popularity of shows' like Arrow and The Flash, many fans hoped they'd reconsider. Well, it still doesn't look very likely according to producer Charles Roven.

Even though The Flash has now introduced the Multiverse (opening up the possibility for both Flashes to exist simultaneously), Roven - who is part of the DCEU "brain trust" - is adamant that Grant Gustin and Ezra Miller iterations of the Scarlet Speedster will remain in their wholly separate worlds.

"Our Flash is gonna be not that guy. [Gustin is] terrific in doing [what he’s doing]. I think that whether it’s The Flash or Arrow, they’re doing a great job with the TV shows they’re doing. Gotham, that show’s really terrific. And we obviously wish them the best. It’s gonna be interesting to see what happens when we have a different Flash in a different universe. We’re gonna try to stay in our universe and they’re gonna be staying, I think, in their universe, and hopefully the audiences will embrace both. I think they can. You know, Supergirl is not in our universe, and that seems to be doing quite well."

As for that solo Flash flick, we recently found out that Seth Grahame-Smith would write and direct it, but haven't had any real updates since. The movie isn't set to hit theaters until March 2018 so we have quite a while to go yet, but Roven has assured fans that the story is coming together, at least. “We are in the script stage," he confirmed. "Early, early, early in the script stage.”

COIE blew the minds of people who'd been reading comics for years. The GA isn't ready for that shit.

Doing a Multiverse Crisis between the movies and shows would be even dumber then connecting the shows like Marvel do

Simple short version of why.

1. The Crisis storyline has allways being hard to sell to newcommers at for the comics.

2. If you have an event like Crisis on Infinite earth, you would then have to build it up through all the corners, and everyone that watches the movies has neither the time and/or intrest to watch X shows and X season to get a movie.

There is a reason why Marvel has events that is from the movies, on Agent's on Shield that only affect the show and not vice versa

I honestly think there is some merit to the claim that the film side of the DC project doesn't exactly see eye-to-eye with the TV show side. I'd bet any money that the film division more or less looks down on what the TV division is doing, but they won't admit that because it'd be "bad for business." That aside, I don't understand why people have such a hard time understanding why everything is the way it is. I think 0mega said it best: the Flash TV show will probably be dead and gone by the time the movie even comes out, so there won't be any confusion there. People will have remembered Gustin's Barry, but they'll be ready for whatever incarnation of the Flash Ezra Miller will portray (please be Wally). The Suicide Squad debacle from Arrow kind of answers itself when the way the characters interacted with each other fell greatly from a creative standpoint. It was like you could tell the writers on Arrow were trying to hard to make them click. So I won't exactly miss them appearing on the show anymore.

But when all is said and done, would you honestly want to see Stephen Amell's acting caliber mixing in with Ben Affleck's? You can diss on Gal Gadot all you want on why you think she is a shotty actress, but unlike Amell she's getting gigs in films that have A-list casts that could choke a horse with shear talent. Not to mention Amell seems to be more or less a complete moron with both how he interacts with the studio who has employed him (in several interviews he has voiced his distaste about him and Gustin not being a part of the film-verse), and just how he expresses his regular opinions (he's like Anthony Mackie "jokingly" supporting Donald Trump, but he's like that all the time). So I think the DCCU has dodged a bullet by not attaching themselves to the TV-verse. Of course, rules are meant to be changed and for all we know the Film-verse could connect with the TV-verse somewhere down the line, but IF that happens, I think i might just start tuning out on DC's films.

I've said this before, but if you let Grant Gustin into the films, no matter how much you love him, you HAVE to let Amell, Holland, Cassidy, Rickards, Ramsey, Panabaker, Patton, and any other actors on either show that portray comic book characters, on to the films as well.

And no offense, but most of them are some truly shitty actors (hence why they're members of TV shows on the CW Network).

@0megaDaGr0dd

That is also simple.

Schedule issues, and the CW stars would (if they would pop up in movies) start to demand a pay raise which would risk in force CW to can the shows.

And the off course, the once that watches the movies, has neither the time and/or interest to watch the show, so they would sit their with big question marks on where the flying [frick] the TV character would come from.

Again. smarter move to not connect at all

True dat. Grant Gustin and Tom Cavanagh are the best things that happened to the CW.

Truly, if the ONLY DC show in existence was the Flash and it ONLY starred Cavanagh and Gustin, then I'd be more than happy to have it connected to the film universe.

@0megaDaGr0dd

The comics have a multiverse yet the film version refuses to use it to cross brands even though it - unlike Marvel - can do the crossovers without having any actual baring on their films

I'm not defending DC but you do realize, they are only 1 film deep in the DCCU lol.

They are one film deep and we are already wanting a Crisis film?

I do hope that perhaps in time somewhere down the Flash series we could see Grant and Ezra's Flash on the big screen. Both are in 2 different universes in the entire multiverse. Just because they are not in the same universe doesn't mean they would be separate.

And also with all due respect to Marvel, we have yet to see the shows crossover in the films. And I mean the shows in the movies. Not like Sif showing up in AOS but like Kingpin showing up in Spider-Man or Daredevil showing up in Civil War. Hell have the movies referenced the shows? Not hating on Marvel but I can't remember if they have or haven't. More specifically SHIELD, know Daredevil hasn't been referenced.

I actually kinda like that tv and movies are separate. Kinda like how the Foxverse and the MCU are separate, though obviously theres a different context for that. I mean its pretty sweet that we get two interpretations of the marvel universe and two big(ish)interpretations of the dc universe. Anyway some of the quality in the dc shows is really hit or miss, so they're better off separate.

Nice, it's awesome that the DCEU movies and The Tv Shows are separate, I hope it stays that way

It makes it so much more interesting for me, showing different sides of the characters, and not having to worry about how the Tv Shows and movies connect all the time

Bingo. I mean I love The Flash and think Grant is great but it's biggest issue is that it's connected to Arrow and Arrow is meh.

I mean who can say this Suicide Squad

Is better than this...

Now if Flash was the only DC show, yea connect it to the films.

sjvkrgr
sjvkrgr - 11/10/2015, 11:40 AM
DC is missing an extraordinary opportunity here by not using very established and accepted characters and actors. Instead they need to have a different TV universe (a few actually), a different movie universe, a different cartoon universe. Etc. Why?! Creating multiple universes I think creates disloyalty from one continuity to the other. I loved the Spider-Man and X-Men movies. But when the MCU bursted on the scene, I became less interested in Sony and Fox's iterations of characters.
I love DC, they have tremendous characters, storylines and potential, but they keep pissing it away through what seems like haphazard ideas to get attention that they're "doing something new!!!" I hope things go well for them, but come on, Gotham, Supergirl, Arrow, Flash, Titans a few other shows and the movies? Come together, like a team.
