First Official Look At Margot Robbie And Alexander Skarsgård In THE LEGEND OF TARZAN

We've seen some set snaps, but now USA Today has shared a couple of official stills from David Yates' live-action Tarzan movie, which promises to be a very different take on Edgar Rice Burroughs' classic tale. See Margot Robbie as Jane and Alexander Skarsgård as Tarzan after the jump...

Most versions of Tarzan follow the source material and kick things off with the character as a young boy being raised by apes in the jungle, before eventually growing up and returning to civilization to reclaim the title of John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke - but this new take from director David Yates begins with Tarzan having already left the mantle of King of the Jungle behind and settled in Victorian England with his wife, Jane.

At some point he is invited back to the Congo as an emissary of Parliament, and only then does he strip off and get back to his vine-swinging roots.

“It’s almost the opposite of the classic tale, where it’s about taming the beast,” says Skarsgård. “This is about a man who’s holding back and slowly as you peel off the layers, he reverts back to a more animalistic state and lets that side of his personality out.”

Tarzan

The Legend Of Tarzan also stars Djimon Hounsou as Chief Mbonga, Samuel L. Jackson George Washington Williams and Christoph Waltz as Captain Leon Rom. The movie swings into theaters on July 1st, 2016.

I kind of remember people lobbying for this guy to be Thor back in the day and that was when he was True Blood skinny. He's not Helmsworth big but I can see Thor potential.

@Minato808 Great actor, never watched that show though. Wouldn't be shocked to see him get another franchise chance with a CBM.

There's no reason to judge the movie by the pictures, wait until release of the first trailer. Hopefully this will be better than Pan. It's David Yates Who gave us the last HP movies nothing can be better thant this Just give it a chance.

Treasure Planet and Atlantis: The Lost Empire are the only Disney films that need live action remakes.

@Quick1029 I hope so. Yates is a great director but----so was PAN's director Joe Wright who gave us Atonement, Anna Karenina and Hanna.

I can't help but have doubt in these live action Disney tales when the predecessors have been paltry. I hope it's good. The cast is impressive I must say

The hope must be to make a trilogy and/or franchise of these rebooted old classics----how do you build a franchise out of Tarzan??
GhostDog

@Quick1029 true. I'm excited for Fantastic Beasts. Yates knows the HP world so well, I expect nothing but greatness there. Can't fight my apprehension with Tarzan though. But I agree, if this sucks, at least we'll have Fantastic Beasts
