Yahoo! is the first website to post the details of their visit to the Montreal set of X-Men: Apocalypse, and there are some intriguing new tidbits to sort through. It's clear from reading through the various interviews that this is going to be the bleakest installment yet in a franchise that's not exactly known for its light-heartedness anyway.

Director Bryan Singer likens his film to HBO's vicious fantasy series Game Of Thrones - and not just because his sequel stars Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark). "I’m a huge ‘Game Of Thrones’ fan,” he tells Yahoo Movies. “There’s a crossover between ‘X-Men’ and ‘Game Of Thrones’, they’re both about a younger generation finding their powers, finding out who they are, and what their place in the world is. I like how the show’s about different groups of people moving towards a common goal. They don’t even know if that’s the right goal, who wants to sit on that uncomfortable throne? I don’t! Everyone in King’s Landing is miserable. But for some reason they want that power.”

Elsewhere there are comparisons made to Francis Ford Coppola's dark odyssey Apocalypse Now, and it's mentioned that two principal characters are "on the verge of death" when we first reconnect with them. Yikes!

It won't all be grimdark misery though - click the link below for more. X-Men: Apocalypse will be released on May 19, 2016

So that explains the horrible casting for Jean. Seriously, the trailer kills itself just from hearing her bad, stuttering acting. It's awful, and I'm fair, if you can't admit it was really bad then you're lying to yourself. But honestly, Bryan seems to be holding onto this franchise like a leech because he has found success consistently here and completely failed with Jack the whatever slayer, I don't feel his passion, enthusiasm, or knowledge and warmth for these characters at all. I think he just likes making films, and he knows he can makes films that an audience will go see, so in other words this is his little bubble, he feels safe there, and doesn't plan on leaving a job that will pay him well consistently.

But the X-Men movies have been getting progressively better and Game of Thrones has been getting progressively shittier.

Whoaaaaa, so it looks like Charles and Eric will end things on a good note at the end of the film. I mean, Magneto is in the X-Mansion and everything. lol

Lol I love how so many of you guys try so damn hard to downplay, not only the critical, but the box office success of these, "fox-men" movies. First class and DoFP especially.

After all the stuff for the upcoming DC films last night with Justice League, Batman v Superman, Wonder Woman, & Suicide Squad and all the stuff the MCU is cooking up...

I can't get excited at all for these Fox-Men films. Fox-Men movies are to movies what Arrow is to TV. Pure shit. I liked DOFP a lot but the noob teenager X-Men taking on X-Men's Darkseid/Thanos is a stupid film concept.

They're not showing nothing because they have nothing to show, the movie sucks and the only way they found to convince peoples to watch it is hiding its monstrous face and compare it to GOT... i despise FOX, they are dangerous and bring hate in all they do !

HEu... sorry.. i got carried away..

This is really becoming my least anticipated film of 2016. I'm a big xmen fan but these films really need to step it up. Enough of all this drama talk and reusing the plot of xmen First Class

The last one was good , I expect this one to be better but wish they had more accurate costumes . The girl in Deadpool and Colossus look fantastic , why are they still in black leather ?

Apoc will surprise us as being a compelling villain and the likelihood of him dying at the end is minimal , so we got that going for us .... Any other positive things to say about this movie ?

@scorpion8125

FF still has nothing to do with X-Men. I rarely(if ever) see anyone say Marvel is shit, for how they've handled Thor in his solo films. I still feel FF the last FF movie could've been really good if they trusted Trank as much as they do Singer. Age of Ultron, the TASM series and the last FF movie show, that studio meddling can ruin something good.
