It seemed that after the less-than-stellar performance of Men in Black II at the box office (relatively speaking, compared to its budget, of course), the idea of a third entry in the series was unlikely. Apparently that's not the case.
According to Variety, Sony is anxious to get the series started again. to this end, they've hired Tropic Thunder writer Etan Cohen to write the script. At this point there is no deal in place for either Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones.
The studio, as reported in the story, is looking for franchises. Bond has reverted back to MGM and while there is a chance for another Ghostbusters, the only real viable series they have is Spider-Man.
