Men in Black 3 Gets a Writer

It seemed that after the less-than-stellar performance of Men in Black II at the box office (relatively speaking, compared to its budget, of course), the idea of a third entry in the series was unlikely. Apparently that's not the case.
According to Variety, Sony is anxious to get the series started again. to this end, they've hired Tropic Thunder writer Etan Cohen to write the script. At this point there is no deal in place for either Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones.
The studio, as reported in the story, is looking for franchises. Bond has reverted back to MGM and while there is a chance for another Ghostbusters, the only real viable series they have is Spider-Man.

On a scale of 1-10, I couldn't care less about a MIB III movie. Unless they never showed them and they just blurred in and saved the day and flashy thingyed everyone. Maybe told from the point of view of some cops. No wait some half cat half man cops on a planet humans have invaded. There can be a massive battle and a moral to the story and everything.
weapon925 - 11/1/2009, 5:07 PM
kool cant wait to see this movie get made
flames809 - 11/1/2009, 5:09 PM
I'LL WATCH IT, I WANNA SEE MORE UFO ALIEN STUFF, SECRET AGENCIES AND COVER UPS MORE, EXPLANATIONS FOR STUFF AND STORIES WE'VE HEARD..IMPLEMENT IT INTO COMEDY
GUNSMITH - 11/1/2009, 5:19 PM
i never watched #2 but #1 was [frick]ing epic when i was 3
bleedthefreak16 - 11/1/2009, 5:30 PM
MIB was fine as a single movie. These studios just want to keep reusing older classics, because they don't want to risk losing money on new ideas. They take older, iconic film heroes/villains and use them in new films, because we are so familiar with these characters that we are expected to see them, and once we do, they cash in on our lust for nostalgia. For shame Hollywood, For shame.
supermarioworldE - 11/1/2009, 5:31 PM
should be interesting !
FrankCastle1 - 11/1/2009, 5:34 PM
The only difference between you and me is that I make this look good.

Haha.. Men in Black films are the best, don't deny it.. Bare in mind I watched them when I was like 10.

Quite different from comic though!
Imran - 11/1/2009, 5:45 PM
I hope Jones and Smith hold out for a really good script before they give thier OK. They both could careless for this vehical unless its good. Jones more than Smith from what I understand. Please, don't cave to more and more money thrown at a crap script. Hmm, maybe I should further say also a good director for it also.

In other words, I really hope its a good fun event, if it happens.
JYCowboy - 11/1/2009, 6:14 PM
C'mon, guys!

It's writer of Tropic Thunder!

There's no way it could be anything less than awesome. Besides, I bet it'd actually make quite a bit considering how MIB has established itself as a 90's nostalgia franchise.
MovieTheaterLad - 11/1/2009, 6:21 PM
It will be another Rush hour 3
THEHAWK - 11/1/2009, 7:39 PM
I hope not Hawk. I liked tropic thunder, don't know what else those writers have done but if were to be as funny as that I'd be down with it.
thwhtGuardian - 11/1/2009, 7:48 PM
Oh Tropic Thunder no doubt was funny, but Men In Black 3?? Pass... Men In Black 2 to me was stupid. Men In Black was okay but these movies seem to be more popular with the young kids so why hire the writers of Tropic Thunder??
InstigatorGIRL - 11/1/2009, 8:10 PM
i like mib but making bad boys 3 should be on top list priority making it top priority of being rated R with the most sex violence and comedy you have ever seen.
thegamedrex - 11/1/2009, 8:47 PM
@thegame, hell yea i would love to see another bad boys!!!! bad boys 2 is one of the greatest movies ever. i love Will and Martin together they are the perfect duo. not to mention captain Howard haha.
Torque - 11/1/2009, 10:23 PM
@Lad dude what made Tropic Thunder script funny was Ben Stiller because he wrote most of it, this guy probably just helped a little bit but credit all goes to Stiller.
Rokrad - 11/1/2009, 11:00 PM
They need to o into outer space in the next movie, on some missions.
luffycapri - 11/1/2009, 11:36 PM
its old already... let it go......
KeepItReal - 11/1/2009, 11:46 PM
@Rokrad: Riiiight... because all the other comedies written by Ben Stiller have been HILARIOUS >.>
DeadWebHead - 11/2/2009, 1:12 AM
Wooosa!
Imran - 11/2/2009, 1:31 AM
really enjoyed the first, but the second was a shame, they would only be able to bring it back if they did a prequel that was the organisations beginning. i think that would be cool.
AHsweetGAMBIT - 11/2/2009, 1:36 AM
Not sure if this would be any good or not - the first on was decent, the second one was ok but i think that it would depend on what direction this movie goes in (prequel/sequel etc)

Guys, check out my UPDATED Young Avengers Fan Cast and keep an eye out for my New Warriors cast later today! :)
joshw24 - 11/2/2009, 3:33 AM

CorndogBurglar - 11/2/2009, 6:30 AM

be implemented. Enough with the kiddie crap.

MsKyle08 - 11/2/2009, 7:17 AM
As long as Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are cast, I'll see it. Even though it dosen't really NEED a sequel.

LEEE777 - 11/2/2009, 10:31 AM
You know I saw in the credits that MiB was based off a comic book but is it called MiB or is it another name the movie never says the name and I have yet to find it.... Would like to give it a read.
InstigatorGIRL - 11/2/2009, 10:54 AM
Instigator Girl- Yeah it was based off of a comic book. I think that it was either published by Malibu comics or Marvel. Either way i never read the comic or have actually laid eyes on the comic as well.
ironknight27 - 11/2/2009, 11:00 AM
I cant wait for Men In Black III, as long as it has the quality of the first one, it should be awesome. And please this time can we have no bloody story where one of the two agents are learning to be a Man in Black. In the first one, it was Will Smith learning to be an agent and the second one it was Tommy Lee Jones relearning what it was to be a MIB so please for the third one can we just jump straight into the story with J and K as two experienced MIB agents fighting aliens. And they could also introduce more elements from the original comics with Jay and Kay finding out that the MIB organisation are actually trying to control the world by hiding the existence of aliens. In the comics, one of the MIBs went rogue as he found out the true purpose of the organisation and he had to be hunted down. Hows about they do this for the third movie too where Jay and Kay are assigned to wipe this agent's memory and then they begin to find out about the true purpose of the MIB too and the rest of the movie could deal with Jay and Kay trying to survive against their former allies

And with the Tropic Thunder guy writing it, it should be great!

@JY Cowboy
Damn right!

@LEEE777
Well Im glad someone is looking forward to Men In Black 3. I rather see a new Men In Black rather than anymore [frick]ing Saw movies, Twilight movies or Resident Evil crap! And is that walama in your gif? lol That thing is the best!
dancingmonkey08 - 11/2/2009, 11:03 AM
I like Will Smith, I like Tommy Lee Jones, but I hated MIB 1 and 2. I don't really know why, I just did not like them at all.

I won't be going to see this.
Runefyst - 11/2/2009, 11:13 AM
girl@ yes the comic is called men in black, or mib for short.

LEEE777 - 11/2/2009, 11:37 AM
I reckon MEN IN BLACK would make a great live TV series with different actors and characters of course though we could still have Z!!

But i wont hold my breath with MARVEL's track record when it comes to live TV!!!

Still waiting for MOON KNIGHT MARVEL!!! : D
LEEE777 - 11/2/2009, 11:40 AM

teabag - 11/2/2009, 2:01 PM
@lEEE777: I agree. It's played, so move it to television where it will be at least as good as all the other crap that's on. I have to say that I'm totally indifferent about this piece of news.
Velox - 11/2/2009, 2:35 PM
DOG @ Lmao, the red blue blur!!! Yeah its just sunk in lol!

VELOX @ Deff, i think its better for tv too, hell that WAREHOUSE 13 tv show is sorta a rip off of it anyway! : D
LEEE777 - 11/2/2009, 3:44 PM
MIB 2 was not tight.

MIB didn't age so well. But I give it up for that dude who played the giant roach in human skin. That motherfcuker deserved a golden globe. Bump to that grunty wobbling sugar water drinking son of a b!tch.
Keven - 11/2/2009, 4:10 PM
i question accuracy of the statement that 'mib ii' did not perform well enough at the box office, relative to its budget, to suggest a third installment. the production budget for 'mib ii' was $140 million and the domestic haul was just over $190 million. if america were the only country in the world, which, thankfully, it isn't, maybe breaking just better than even would can the possibility of 'mib iii.' however, on top of the domestic box office, the film took in over a quarter of a billion dollar internationally. so i am less than shocked to hear number three is in the works.
inlovewiththeregencyelf - 11/2/2009, 4:15 PM
superdog: So your dog was Tom Welling's stunt double in Season 8 huh? I bet your dogs a better actor, lol! ;)

LEE: I've seen the first two Saw movies and they're watchable crap basically!

Talking of Marvel TV shows - head over to Fan Fic and check out my New Warriors and Young Avengers Fan Casts!!!
joshw24 - 11/2/2009, 4:19 PM
Josh@ my dog can actually fly and is wearing a true to form superman costume, so no thankfully he had no part of that travesty called season 8 :)

also even he could have kicked that doomsdays ass!!!!!!!
superdog - 11/2/2009, 4:30 PM
I bet your dog has done Durance by now aswell :)
teabag - 11/2/2009, 4:36 PM
superdog: LMAO, fair point!!! :D Here's hoping that your dog wiill be in Season 10 then - we'll finally have a proper Superman, lol!

teabag: I know that this is too easy a joke but was it...

;P

joshw24 - 11/2/2009, 4:53 PM
It would be one thing if the end of the second MIB film left a great idea open for the third, or if the writers had pitched a really great idea for a new movie. Cranking out another movie just because they can is a recipe for disaster. Can any of you name a good movie made under these circumstances? I sure can't.

Especially worrisome is that neither Tommy Lee Jones nor Will Smith are signed to reprise their roles. Do you want to see anyone else playing those parts? I sure don't. I've seen enough crappy sequels that lacked the actors that made the earlier films work.
comicb00kguy - 11/2/2009, 4:55 PM
My dog would never doggie style durance Cause he knows SHE IS MINE and if he touched her he would have a one way ticket to a mike vick ranch!!!!!! That goes for the rest of you basterds too!!!!!! ;)
superdog - 11/2/2009, 5:01 PM
@ superdog

i meant like the actual men in black in real life. that could make a pretty cool movie, i think.

but yes, these movies would be MUCH better if they followed the comics closer, because the comics were more adult oriented

cute dog by the way :)
CorndogBurglar - 11/2/2009, 5:24 PM
Dog@ ive never touched her twice :)

Josh@ lol
teabag - 11/2/2009, 5:31 PM
