SDCC '13: Tom Hiddleston On Loki Being A Force For Good

Actor Tom Hiddleston discusses the chances of Loki being redeemed as a force for good in Thor: The Dark World. We saw in the first teaser trailer that Thor (Chris Hemsworth) goes to Loki for help but does he actually receive it?

Said Tom Hiddleston in response to whether there's any part of Loki that wants to be redeemed, "I don't know if he's self-aware enough to know about what he wants or what he needs. His raison d'etre, his epithet is mischief. He lives for it. He lives for rebellion and wickedness, guile and unpredictability. I think to betray that - to let himself down in that regard would be a self betrayal." The interviewer opened up the conversation by asking about the end of the SDCC footage for "Thor: The Dark World" where Loki reportedly cuts off Thor's hand as he's reaching for mjolnir - there's online debate about whether he cuts off Thor's hand or kicks it away. Well, Tom made no effort to tell the interviewer she was incorrect about that scene so it's possible that Thor does indeed lose a hand in the film. With director Alan Taylor coming over from "Game of Thrones" it shouldn't come as a surprise that a handsome blond warrior loses a hand...if indeed that turns out to be the case.

Yea I honestly don't give a shit about Thor but I may see this film just for Tom's Loki.

Tom has a great evil smile. He would make a great Joker but I doubt he would do it. Maybe he would though.

So, Thor becomes Captain Hook?

If he truly loses a hand, I bet he will grow it back with magic before the movie ends.

Hiddleston is a fantastic actor and the perfect Loki.... Just a shame hes kind of been portrayed as a complete pussy when it comes to fighting and even plotting to a degree which ruins his potential badass factor for me.

I always forget about Thor in The Avengers, I just didn't feel like he got the screen time he deserved. Hopefully The Dark World gives us more Thor than we got in 2011 and 2012

@TheRealRemyLebeau I'm sorry but Loki does overshadow Thor.We haven't even seen Thor in full force (hopefully that changes). They made him a betch & I liked Thor (1st film while many ppl on here call it average or w.e) Loki hasn't been full fleshed either but that's saying a lot seeing as how it's THORS movie & Loki outshines him.Thor doesn't fly as much & barely uses his lightning. He's a "Semi-God" that got punched by Hulk & didn't retaliate.I'm ready 4 Thor 2 shit on everybody. He's the Supes of the MCU & that's how they decide 2 use him? I mean it's cool but not Thor like at all.
MrReese
MrReese - 7/22/2013, 9:03 AM
Greatest MCU villain goes 2 Loki 2 this date! I'm pretty sure Loki gets more of a standain ovay than Thor will even at Comic-Con.When I showed my friends (not cb fans) the new Thor trailer they were like meh....That is until they heard Loki's voice at the end & were suddenly intrigued by it.Loki makes the Thor films simply becuz Loki is [frick]in awesome! No shame in that!

I am sure Thor will be good but not as good at Winter Solider.

&Remy Thor didn't do shit.If the lighting made such an impact on stopping the Chitauri y the [frick] wouldn't he keep using it?? & again ur wrong (no disrespect) but Hulk stole the fighting scenes.Fact!

@JoeMomma29 I think he was trying 2 calm him down more than anything.Kinda wished that scene would have gone longer than it did.I mean it's freakin Thor vs Hulk!!

@ MrReese

I agree, the fighting scene between Thor and Hulk was the best (straight out of the comics). But in my opinion Thor should have done more like Hulk during the invasion due to his strength and powers, but they decided to focus a little bit more on IronMan.

So, it'll get replaced with a "Destroyer" arm earlier than the comics...?

Won't lie, King Thor looked badass sporting it...

again I don't know y u bring up Bats or DC into this. It has nothing 2 do with this.Thor taking out the Frost Giants n making it look easy just makes me ask y the [frick] did he have such a hard time taking on the Chitauri??? Again not tryin 2 start no war.I'm just mad Thor doesn't have his helmet, doesn't fly like he's suppose 2 & doesn't use lighting as much either. It is all opinion & I respect urs but I'm just saying.
