John Barrowman Returns For 'ARROW' Season 2

John Barrowman's Dark Archer (Malcolm Merlyn) will return for season 2 of The CW's "Arrow" but the mystery remains whether it will be in present-day Starling City or flashback. What do you make of the Dark Archer's ambiguous fate stemming from the season finale?

Arrow season 2 John Barrowman returns
John Barrowman is back!...maybe? But before discussing Malcolm Merlyn lets hear what "Arrow" producer Marc Guggenheim had to say on returning guest star Kelly Hu who portrays Chyna White. Said Guggenheim, "Kelly Hu is absolutely coming back. She comes back in episode 2. She not only comes back, but we were dead-set on not just bringing back China White, but bringing back China White and showing her in a new way and with a new dimension than just what we did last year. There's no point in bringing her back, just to repeat same-old, same-old. We do one new scene where you go, 'Ooh! That's a China White we didn't see last year.'" It was previously confirmed that White will be teaming up with the Bronze Tiger played by Michael Jai White. Could the two eventually end up on A.R.G.U.S.' Suicide Squad which has also been confirmed?

As for Barrowman? "Part of the enjoyment of Season 2 for us is how do you combine the old -- not the old -- but the Season 1 villains with the new Season 2 villains," said a cryptic Guggenheim. Continuing on Barrowman specifically, "We've confirmed that John Barrowman is coming back. We are a show that does flashbacks. I don't think it's spoiling anything to say that John Barrowman's scenes will be with Stephen [Amell]." The show has quickly developed a reputation for turning fan expectations based on comic book canon on their head so it's safe to say that while Guggenheim only confirmed flashbacks for Merlyn, don't write off the possibility that the Dark Archer survived his season finale confrontation with 'The Hood' (soon to be rechristened "Green Arrow" in season 2).

"After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he’s become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine."

Yeah, he definitely survived the fight at the end of season 1 on the roof. I was at a panel called Anything Goes w/ John Barrowman at Comic-Con this year and someone asked him if he was gonna return to Arrow and he pretty much said out loud that his character did not die so... lol

I have no care about seeing the Flash at all. But I'm very eager to see Michael Jai White and the rest of the original cast! But screw the Flash!

i dont think that i would have lasted after this season of arrow, because unlike programs like walking dead, game of thrones, breaking bad and sons of anarchy its been missing something, dont get me wrong the first season was great but it was missing the promise of superpowers at some point but now where getting the flash i have new hopes for this show it seems like a lot more is possible and everything isn't more grounded than the nolanverse

What if he uses the Lazarus pit!?

Connect this to the DCCU. Have a Batman. Tie the Dark Archer with Ras Al Ghul (they already did with Nanda Parbat).

Seriously, they've mentioned Bludhaven, Central City, Coast City!?

Whats the point of all this DC world building if not for greater things!

i disagree with the fact that this should link up with the dc cinematic universe in a direct way, it should instead be part of the multiverse it would be good to see it link up in a crisis movie

GUYS. I'M TELLING YOU.

China Whyte SAVED ****** (Black Canary), Brainwashed her and turned her into her own little weapon of ass-kicking!
Remember how in the trailer Black Canary is wearing all leather and a whitish-blonde wig? She's definitely China White's little protege'!!

Dark Archer was my favorite character of season one he was a complete badass. John Barrowman played him to perfection and was very menacing.

@gmoney0505 - I love that scene where Malcomb is talking to his son. The acting from Barrowman was so good.

Stephen Amell said himself in an interview that it is hard to kill John Barrowman, so I think he'll be back.

I totally agree with @thewonderer, having Arrow in the DCCU would be great! There's no reason they can't do it, so they have the show more grounded, that doesn't mean Superman from MOS and the next Batman aren't out there. Stephen Amell is definitely a good enough actor to be apart of a big JL movie. And with Flash being introduced and then getting a spin off only makes even more sense for them to interlink with the DCCU.

He mus be alive! Main nemesis of Green Arrow, he just can't die so simple in the first season!

They don't kill Lex in "Smallville" in the end) They must bring Dark Archer back!
