Pacific Rim Guillermo del Toro Gundam Japan visit

Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim continues to do well at the international box office. Currently, Pacific Rim's box office total rests at $344.170 million USD with 71.9% of that total ($247.4 M) coming from foreign territories. Last Week, del Toro was in Japan to promote the film and interestingly enough, the director visited a giant Gundam statue and Gundam museum which led to the director revealing that the Cherno Alpha jaeger was inspired by the zaku model from Gundam.

"When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse."

I just want a damn Gundam Wing movie! I'm fine if there isn't a sequel to Pacific Rim though I greatly enjoyed but it wrapped itself up nicely. But I really was hoping and still hope this is successful so we can get a Gundam Wing movie.

One of the best movies of the summer for me, along with Star Trek Into Darkness and Elysium. Can't wait for a sequel.

Pacific Rim was he best movie of the summer.
Best of the whole year so far.

American tastes suck sometimes. Glad to hear this movie is doing well overseas. A sequel would be most welcome.

Alot of movies are seeing their box office bolstered by overseas money. Wolverine, Pacific Rim and WWZ will easily see sequels thanks in large part to international money.

Americans will now have to realize that alot of movies will be geared towards the interanational audience more and more. The cost of these big budget movies require it. Get used to seeing giant robots and alot of weird stuff in your movies.

@fettastic

c'mon, it's a movie, not everything has to be realistic or have a reason grounded in reality. can we just have fun with a giant robot movie? or do you prefer 2 hours of exposition about the inner workings of this fantasy world? *cough*ManOfSteel*cough*

Don't they (breifly) explain it in the movie, that if they kill the Kaiju out at sea they get that Kaiju Blue stuff, which is like a toxic oil spill. If they are fought with robots it reduces the Kaiju Blue, and makes their bodies easier to deal with.

I loved this movie but to be honest I do not really want a sequel. The solved all of their problems in the first movie and they don't need a sequel.

Does anyone have access to the Canadian / US split for the BO on PR? Usually Canadian films have about a 10% weight in the NA BO, but I'm curious if the Canadian BO take is higher for this one.
