Scott Frank Rewriting Michael Fassbender Led ASSASSIN'S CREED

Screenwriter Scott Frank (The Wolverine, Minority Report) is currently rewriting the script for 20th Century Fox's Assassin's Creed, which has Michael Fassbender attached to play the lead.

Scott Frank has revealed that he’s currently rewriting the script for Fox and Ubisoft Motion Picture's Assassin’s Creed. While talking about his work on The Wolverine, Frank disclosed, “I’m rewriting Assassin’s Creed right now, and what I love about it is that I’ve never adapted a video game before and it has its own set of challenges. Especially in the world of rewrites, I love trying to do something completely different if I can.”

There’s no word on the identity of the first writer to tackle the Assassin’s Creed script.

In an effort to escape the trend of terrible video game movies, Ubisoft Motion Pictures has retained 100% creative control on all their feature films. However, it appears Fox's preference at least played a small part in Frank’s hiring as his filmography is full of projects that he’s worked on for the studio. No word yet on who's directing the film but Frank also has some directorial experience. Is it possible that not only is he rewriting the script, he’s also in line to direct? Assassin’s Creed is set for release on Memorial Day 2015.

Outstanding video game series. Hoping the movie hits the mark.

Make this happen, and do not make it suck like every other video game turned into a movie.

Don't [frick] this one up please.

Also don't skip Altair and go right to Ezio.

This could be good if they do it right, wonder if they'll follow the games or go with an original story.

Can't believe Fassbender signed on to do this.

Could destroy his career if its bad.

I hope they make this an original story, trying to copy the games wont work, just make up a new Assassin in modern times and lets see his journey and the journey of his ancestors instead or preferably just make it all be in the past.

Destroy is career? Highly doubt that

@thewonderer

Since Ubisoft already made a kick ass AC movie that served as a prequel to AC2 and they have complete creative control over whose directing, writing the script, acting and producing, FOX are just distributing it after Sony didn't want Ubisoft involved in the project at all and wanted complete creative control.

Another big 2015 release. I think the Movie industry is going to collapse on itself that year. Too many big releases.

Don't worry, video game adaptations always turn out well

@ekrolo2

That's the best idea imo. You could even have it set in the same world as the games, it would just be a different tale. I wonder if they'll go with the ancient artifacts plot.

@Nubase

Yeah that would be cool, each movie covering a different period of time, there's no way you can cram different era's into just one movie if you want to develop them.

There are also plans for Splinter Cell and Watchdogs adaptations. There good be a video game movie boom if the 3 are successful.

I love Fassbender so I am optimistic. Like that Ubisoft has complete control but the games can get convoluted.

@40oz

If this year is any indication on how movies can cannibalize each other by releasing so close to each other every weekend then 2015 is going to be a movie apocalypse.

I've always believed that video game movies can work, if you get the right people.

Look at the past video game movies, and almost none of the directors had made one good movie before making the video game movie.

Hopefully they'll get it right this time.

BlackJack if he's playing Desmond no need to bulk up.

I would definitly cast the guy from Prison Break as one of the characters at some point. He would be a great Assassin. Perhaps he could be Desmond MIles????

Assassins are not BULKY...they are LEAN...you ever see a BULKY ninja? Nope...not saying hes a ninja but you gotta be LEAN to move as quick as he'll need to ....not BULKY.

as you can see from my icon, i am a HUGE assassins creed fan, i love the characters , the fiction behind it but im a little nervous for this movie, i dont want michael fassbender playing altair, if this is the first movie, i think he might be playing just desmond and desmond is the main character and they wont have the ancestor thing and it might a bourne-indiana jones style adventure film

I'm playing Assassin's Creed 2 at this very moment(my first AC game). I'm excited that Michael Fassbender is on board. And the fact Ubisoft has 100% creative control makes more hopeful for this.

We could be in for a fantastic video game movie adaption.

@PsyBoy Lol! The only video game movies I like are Mortal Kombat and Tomb Raider.

I'm currently in the process of playing the first game. I gotta say it's pretty overrated and really annoying and tedious at times. The only thing that really keeps me interested is the story. The whole animus idea is pretty [frick]in cool. That being said, they better follow the story cause then what's the point?

The second game is the best one and is what put the series on the map. The first on the whole wasn't that good(story was though) and wasn't praised as much as the second.

Fastbender would be Edzio Adetore di Ferenza.

The first game is awful. Extremely repetitive and not much to do besides the actual missions. The Ezio trilogy is awesome! Much more to do, not repetitive, better characters, new ways to kill. Stop playing the first game and just jump to Assassin's Creed II.

@ocelot and tvor: Okay that makes sense, I was beginning to wonder lol. Alright I'll go get the second one when I have the chance.
