Peter Quill, a man of the ’80s, finds himself caught in the middle of a conflict spanning the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe attempting to earn his title of Star-Lord with a team of ex-cons that includes a genetically engineered raccoon (Rocket Raccoon), a sentient alien tree of royal descent (Groot), a human who died and came back a killing machine (Drax the Destroyer), and powerful assassin who vows revenge against her master (Gamora).

Together they bring the fight to Ronan the Accuser for their own varied personal reasons, Nebula and her pirates, and their grandmaster, Thanos. The film stars Benicio Del Toro, Bradley Cooper, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Djimon Hounsou, Glenn Close, John C. Reilly, Karen Gillan, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Vin Diesel, and Zoe Saldana. It is directed by James Gunn. The script was written by Gunn, with story credits from Chris McCoy and Nicole Perlman. Guardians of the Galaxy is currently set for release on August 01, 2014.

The fictional superhero team were first created in a 1969 issue of Marvel Super-Heroes #18 by Arnold Drake and Gene Colan. The team originates in an alternate reality of the mainstream Marvel Universe, set in the 31st Century, and consists of a team that includes Major Vance Astro, an astronaut from the 20th century Earth who spends a thousand years traveling to Alpha Centauri in suspended animation; Martinex T'Naga, a crystalline alien from Pluto; Captain Charlie-27, and Yondu Udonta a blue-skinned "noble savage" from Centauri-IV. Their primary antagonist are the Badoon, a reptilian alien species in the fictional Marvel Comics universe, a world-conquering nomadic empire traversing throughout the far-reaches of space. The Guardians of the Galaxy received a resurgence in 2008 under the stewardship of Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning. In the aftermath of the Phalanx invasion of the Kree, Star-Lord decides to form a team of interstellar heroes that will be proactive in protecting the galaxy, rather than reacting to crises as they happen. To this end, he recruits Adam Warlock, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, Quasar, Rocket Raccoon and Groot, with Mantis as support staff.

This is all such crap. He's Thanos! There's noway Marvel/Disney is dumb enough to use Vin Diesel as a one sentence one shot tree!

Fiege has said repeatedly he'd like to have people playing the villain roles kept a secret until the film is out.

If Vin is Groot I'll throw up on Miley Cyrus and lick it all back off

I'm am Vin...Uh,Groot. I mean Groot!
Need another take people.

I bet that Vin is playing Thanos in the Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers 3. Remember Kevin Feige said that the role we had for Vin is a long way down the track. I think that role may have been Thanos in Avengers 3.

If he is actually only playing Groot, then who the fk is playing Thanos.
MsDarkPhoenix
MsDarkPhoenix - 11/3/2013, 2:43 AM
I just don't know. First everyone thought he was Vision, then Thanos, then Groot. I have no idea, everything Feige or the actors are saying leads you to speculate something different. I'll just wait for Marvel to officially confirm his role.

Okay, I thought all this Thanos talk was just conjecture, until I saw this here video.
He says "Also", as if to make a distinction between the role that Vin Diesel plays and the role of Groot.
Then he goes on to say that he can't say anything more about it, because anything he says will unravel the thread and give things away. Strange thing to say about a guy who only says "I am Groot", throughout the film, right? And why wasn't he so closeted on any other role?
Also, we know that Thanos is in this film, but we don't know who is playing him. And it is a pretty big role. Even if he's only in the film for a short while, the role is a big role, for future movies.
The film is out in only 9 months and has already completed filming, so you'd think we'd know by now, who is playing Thanos. But we don't. So it's a secret. And Vin Diesel is in the film. As a talking tree. And Chris Pratt says he has a "Dark and Raspy" voice. And doesn't want to say much more about it, because then we will know the secrets.
Yep, he's Thanos, isn't he?

I was really looking forward to this movie but after seeing that crap mid-credit scene of the collector( through youtube of course ) I am very underwhelmed by this movie ...I really hated that scene and the collector was cheesy as shit..now I can see why Alan Taylor hated that scene...fvck this shit

Vin could be Thanos, like others have said, it he was really groot this deal wouldve been officially announced/finalized months ago. Why are we still in the dark about one of the main characters of the movie? My god he could actually be Thanos....I was hoping for Kevin Grevioux
MsDarkPhoenix
MsDarkPhoenix - 11/3/2013, 6:12 AM
What if Thanos can actually only say 'I AM THANOS'? That's why he didn't speak in the Avengers.

I just can't see how ppl didn't like the collector in that scene... It was perfect.
TelaVizion
TelaVizion - 11/3/2013, 6:31 AM
And you people gotta realize, there are different tones to saying "I am Groot". Say it softly, loud, normal. It's not like he says it once and they just use that one track.

He's actually talking when he repeats "I am Groot".
Kyos
Kyos - 11/3/2013, 7:25 AM
Well, in Lord of the Rings John Rhys-Davies was playing Gimli AND voicing Treebeard. So it's clear actors can play one role and voice a speaking tree at the same time. ;)

Ah, Vin Diesel once made me tear up by saying "Superman", so yeah... :'O

Not everyone nows this but Groot is the smartest on the Team only R.R. understands him, and other very high intelligent beings.

NovaCorpsFan - 11/3/2013, 10:12 AM
The Other's voice shifts a lot in his scenes, trust me Thanos did not talk in Avengers. It just seems that way because the Other's voice sort of gargles into a deeper tone at least twice in the film.

I knew that. There's a reason he was a king.

The Collector was acting that way to throw Volstagg and Sif off his scent. I could tell that as soon as he went,
"Oooh... Asgardians... *twirls arms before linking them over his chest and bowing his head*"

Seriously as soon as he did that I was like, he is sooooo playing with them. When he gets all sinister at the end I squealed like a pig in shit. Benicio is perfect as the Collector.
