Kite Samuel L Jackson anime film

You haven't made it in Hollywood till you've had Samuel L. Jackosn point a gun at your head. Well, Callan McAuliffe can consider himself firmly arrived. On speaking about working on Kite, McAuliffe quickly addressed the elepahnt in the room, namely the very NSFW content and subject matter in the original anime. Said Callan, "I suppose in an effort to make it a little more accessible, it's been toned down a tiny bit, but it is still exceedingly violent and there is a lot of the original material in there. It's definitely not something that young children should watch! It still maintains a lot of the elements that fans will be happy with. There are things it's impossible to get across with live action, such as the expressiveness of the characters, which would be overly theatrical in live action. So it has a more cinematic feel to it."

And on working with Jackson, Callan shared, "There is a level of intimidation that is there whether they're a nice person or not just from the get go. The sense of you knowing them already without them knowing you and you wanting to leave a good impression. When I met him, he was just a really nice guy. He's so into it whenever they called action, but then once they called cut, he was making jokes and just being Samuel L. Jackson."

Kite is expected to arrive in theaters in 2014.

First Look At Samuel L. Jackson In KITE Adaptation

"Samuel L. Jackson stars in Ralph Ziman's remake of Yasuomi Umetsu’s Japanese OVA, Kite. The live-action film stars nineteen-year-old India Eisley (Underworld: Awakening, Maleficent) as Sawa, sixty-four-year-old Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier) as Karl Aker (Akai) and eighteen-year-old Callan McAuliffe (The Great Gatsby) as Oburi. If you've seen the original OVA, you know why the ages are important here. The project was very nearly shelved when David R. Ellis (Snakes On A Plane) passed away back in February but Ralph Ziman (Gangster's Paradise: Jerusalema ) quickly stepped in to keep the project moving. "Kite, is described as a character-driven action film that charts the story of Sawa (Eisley), a young woman living in a failed state after the financial collapse, where a corrupt security force profits on the trafficking of young women. When Sawa's policeman father is killed, she vows to track the murderer down with the help of his ex-partner, Karl Aker (Jackson)."

India Eisley is awesome and mega-sexy! Hope they will show in live-action some sex scenes from original. It must be R-rated for violence and nudity!

"oh noooo, race swapping/white washing/'muricanizing..."

Cue the butthurt fellas. Lol!

But, this does look pretty trashy so far. If they're going to go into left field with the cast, at least make the movie good. Sounds like the story and action got watered down too which won't trouble me because I'm not familiar with the source material.

I want to believe in Sam but I think he may have screwed the pooch on this one, though it's still too early to tell whether I'll catch this on DVD or Netflix.

I can't wait until Hollywood realizes what a goldmine Anime can be and decide to take it seriously. I feel like they're in the Batman '89 phase of Anime movies now. Ninja Scrolls, Bleach, or Naruto could be awesome. Get the director from Shinobi with Hollywood quality SFX and you have a hit.

Most anime characters don't even look Asian.

Blonde, red hair, blue round eyes. The only way I'd even know they weren't White would be the fact that we're told they aren't.

I don't see a problem or even think it matters to not have a Japanese cast for the American remake.

Should I watch the anime first, then the movie? Or should i wait to watch this, then get into the anime?
Never seen it, but it sounds interesting.

"I don't see a problem or even think it matters to not have a Japanese cast for the American remake."

Agreed, it doesn't matter for the look because of the way the characters are drawn, and, it helps the movie to have recognizable faces too.

But, one big element that they always seem to miss is the characterization due to the big cultural differences. In that respect, they should be doing something differently because it feels like they are changing the spirit of the source material imo.

Um, couldn't they have at least tried to cast some people that even remotely looked like the characters? That banner is funny and depressing at the same time because you seriously can't tell that any of them are supposed to be the respective character. And some how I don't have any hope for the characterization since those are usually the first to be [frick]ed up. Le sigh.

That Blood: The Last Vampire was [frick]ing insulting. I wanted to kill someone after seeing that tripe. With the supernatural obsessed culture these days, well done Death Note and Bleach live action movies could be so freaking huge.
