12 Comic-Book's that will work as TV-Shows

With WB/DC taking over TV, and putting a show almost on every channel, I think it’s only a matter of time until superheroes will take over the small screen. Here are 12 comic-books that can be great as TV-shows.

With WB/DC taking over TV, and putting a show almost on every channel, I think it’s only a matter of time until superheroes will take over the small screen, just like they did the big one. But not every comic-book can work as a TV-Show, so I made a quick list of 12 possible cool shows, that some of them really must happen. There are 5 shows based on DC and 5 from Marvel, and 2 more from other comics. Plus, I’m giving ideas only for TV-shows that are not already in works.

DC

Suicide Squad

Now I know that there are talks that this might become a movie, and we also seen a version of the Suicide Squad on Arrow, but I want a hard rated-R Suicide Squad TV-show. A show that takes no prisoners, and has a very dark, realistic and mature tone (something that can’t really happen on the CW). I want it to have a similar tone to the “Assault on Arkham” movie. A team of assassins, hitmen and killers who are forced to work as a team, but will kill each other in the first chance they will get. I want it to be realistic like the Nolan movies, but be edgier and darker, but also have a dark sense of humor. Have characters like Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Amanda Waller and many others. I think the show can work on HBO, if not it will be cool to see it on Cinemax or Starz.

Jonah Hex

Yes, that horrible movie wasn’t very good, hell, that movie was worst then Hex’s face. But that doesn’t mean that a Jonah Hex TV-show won’t work. It’s been awhile since we got a good western show, and it’s time for some good western show, and Jonah Hex could be that. It could have the Deadwood tone. The gruesome story could work really well on the TV screen. HBO could be a perfect home for this show, and if not, Cinemax of FX could also do it.

Arkham Asylum

Before you say it, no, the show won’t be based on the Arkham games. What if it will be like Oz, only with crazy super villains? The show can take a deep dark look into the Arkham Asylum, taking a Oz meets Shutter Island tone. We don’t have to see Batman, and the other big villains could have some cameos. But the main thing of the show will be how it feels to be an inmate inside the worst prison in the world. I want the show to focus on a new original character, that is slowly going insane, and now that he is in Arkham, a world of madness, he has to fight his demons and try to survive this hell. Plus, what if one of the characters will be Dr. Harleen Quinzell? before the young woman ever fell into the Joker madness.
Like The Suicide Squad and Jonah Hex, this show has to be Rated-R, and be on HBO/Cinemax/Starz.

Justice League: Origins

This is an idea for a mini-series. Since WB isn’t really doing origin movies for their heroes and we just jumping from Batman v Superman to Justice League (well this is the rumor right now), what if HBO does a mini-series that will serve as the origins story for the members of the JL. Every 3-4 episodes will be a origins story of one of the heroes, that will tell their origins and what they did between Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, Plus there can be some episodes that will show as Lex Luthor’s origins, and maybe see what Batman did before BvS, and also Superman. These episodes don’t have to be too high-budget, they can focus more on the characters themselves, rather than big action scenes. Something like that never has been done before, and there is a zero chance that this will happen, but this might be very cool.

Batman

This is the one show that I always wanted to see. I want me a rated-R Batman show, with a similar tone from The Dark Knight Retunes and the Arkham games (just a similar vibe and tone, not to be based on them). I want a show that will be dark, that will take a new look on the Batman, with much more violence and madness in Gotham. I want 10-13 episodes per season (I hate the fact that Arrow has 23 episodes, too much, and this brings too many fillers and some bad episodes). I know that this probably not happen anytime soon, but I hope that one day there will be a Batman show like this. I hope it will be on HBO, FX or even maybe AMC.

Marvel

The Punisher

This really needs to happen, and it might happen on Netflix in the coming years. But I want to hard rated-R Punisher show, with the MAX tone. A Punisher that just don’t give a f*ck, and is going to kill the bad guys. This might sound like a show that will get little boring after one season, but hey, it worked for Dexter for about 4 seasons and 1 episode (what came after that is just sad…). What can make this show great is Frank Castle, a man who lost everything, and now plays God, killing anyone who breaks the law. At what point does the Punisher goes mad because of his actions. I want it to have some elements from the Max Payne games, a man that slowly losing it, but still will do anything to finish the mission. I don’t want the show to be in the same universe as all the other Marvel movies and shows; I want this show to be its own beast. Well, it can work well on Netflix or Starz.

Morbius

I don’t know who has the rights to Morbius, is it Sony of Marvel? Anyway, this can work as a TV-show. I just watched few episodes of “The Strain”, and that made me think that a Morbius show can work really well. People might be tired of vampires, but they also still love them, especially when they are done correctly. This show can follow an anti-hero, who has to live with his monster-like appearance. This will make for some really interesting stories. Plus, if Marvel has the rights to this, we might see Blade show up at some point. The show can have a little “Angel” vibe to it.

Agents of Asgard

This is a little fun idea I had back when I watched Thor 2. What if Marvel does a show about life in Asgard and The Nine Realms? A show that will be a much lighter version of something like Game of Thrones. The show will follow a group of Asgard’s soldiers that try to keep the peace in the Nine Realms. The show can show us much more of the world of Thor, and have a cool fantasy story. Some characters from the Thor can pup-up here and there, like Sif and the Warriors Three. This can be a fun show, that isn’t as dumb as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but still will be light-hearted and fun, and keep the tone from the Marvel movies. If this show won’t be on Netflix, I don’t know where it should be, but please, just not on ABC.

Spider-Man

Back when Sony destroyed Spider-Man with “Emo-Man 3”, I hoped that we might get a Spidy TV-show. Well, I still hope for one. Spider-Man can work really well as a TV-show. The only problem is that it will need a little higher budget, but it’s still doable. The story of this hero always felt to be like a really cool show that can easily go for 7-8 seasons. Plus, they wouldn’t have to jam all the villains into one movie, since every villain can get his own arc, and done currently. It will be very interesting to see a smaller scale Spider-Man, focusing less on the action and the CGI, and more on the characters.

X-Men

This just asks to be a TV-show. A show that can easily be on AMC or FX, a X-Men show can do what the movies can’t really do, and that is to show off that amazing roster of amazing characters, and capture the magic of the comics. They can start with the First Class mutants, and introduce more mutants and characters as the show keeps going. We can finally see some cool characters brought to life, and the stories of these characters can be explored and developed over the course of few seasons (and not in just a 2 hour movie). I think that an X-Men TV-show can work even better than the movies, and I think that in some point this show has to happen.

Others

Hellboy/B.P.R.D.

I liked the Hellboy movies, and after looking into the comics, I think that a Hellboy/ B.P.R.D. show can work. Since Guillermo del Toro brought “The Strain” to FX, this show can work well there too. Good Monster hunting shows always work well. Plus, you add the rich characters from the Hellboy comics; you can get one hell of a show.

Dredd

I loved that 2012’s Dredd movie with Karl Urban, and I demeaned a TV-show with the same tone, and with Karl Urban as Judge Dredd. If we are not getting a sequel to that movie, this has to be turned into a TV-show. Post-apocalyptic shows are really hot right now, and with the cool stories from Dredd, this show can work. It will be little weird that we will never see the main’s actor face on the show, but that’s part of the magic. Somebody, make this happen.

So these are my TV-shows, hope you like this one, And tell me what are your TV-shows...

I would love to see a Punisher tv show on HBO or Netflix where they can go all out. I don't know if Jon Hamm can play the role though, he is a little to clean for Frank Castle

I always see X-men working as a television series.

I would like to see "The Runaways" "Moon Knight" "Nightwing" and "The Young Avengers" be adapted for television.

My top two potential tv shows that need to be made are; Moon Knight and the Punisher. Both of those shows would work very well on the small screen. I really hope that Marvel will adapt Moon Knight and the Punisher into their Netflix series. It would be a no brainer really. As far as DC properties are concerned I would love to see Nightwing. I really hope Nightwing is included in Arrow or the rumored Teen Titans live action series. Either way Nightwing needs to be brought to life.
