Love the video, as always.

Great stuff - but I keep hearing people comparing Solo's death to Kenobi's sacrifice... why? Han had no intention of giving his life for anyone, he was attempting to reach his son and bring him home.

LOL! @Gusto. Not true!

Ror - I don't think it has to do with intention. When people compare it, it's because it's the same beat in the story as to when Obiwan died.

Right before he was killed you had the protagonist, Rey run up just in time to witness it. Just as Luke ran up just in time to see Obiwan die. Then they had to immediately flee the scene. It was essentially the exact same scene.

Both of their deaths further motivated the protagonist story arc.

Tevii, yeah I get that the how is similar, but not the why, and that's the most important thing.

Rulk, I don't think anyone would deny that there were a lot of similar story beats, but that doesn't mean it was "A New Hope Redux", just that Abrams did play it a bit safe - because he had to! At the end of the day there were a lot of things that were new and original about the movie too, but the naysayers will never acknowledge that of course.

IF the next film veers too close to Empire I will take more issue with that, but I doubt it will. They were just re-establishing the Star Wars universe with this first new instalment and wanted to keep things simple. I think they'll het weird next time.

I don't think Abrams had to play anything safe. It's Star Wars for Jeebus sake. It could've been R2D2 making fart noises for 2 hours and still made a billion dollars. I understand the need to reintroduce the audience to Star Wars, but why do it by rehashing a 40 year old film? Why not be creative and original and entice both old fans and new?

Bunch of nitpickers. It was a wicked movie.

When's this coming out on HBO?

@Rulk

I hated this movie.....but I have come to a realization that this movie was a soft reboot!!!!! Just like Jurassic World. The only thing is, a lot of fans have their fandom blinders on to admit that.

That last cameo is awesome!!!!!!

And on a side note I forgot that Captain Phasma was in a trash compactor....so is she dead? If so what a waste!

I enjoyed the film on pure homage to my childhood, but it was literally a rehash of the past films and in that sense it was a disappointment...but it was STAR WARS....the prequels didn't have that SW feel..

@TypoCorrecto

Ummmm did I not make myself clear I said I hated it!!!!!

There were things I like about the movie but the things I hated just overshadowed the good.

I am exited for the next movie, and I hope this movie takes down Avatar.

@newmutantsreturns

The problem with the prequels was CGI......nothing felt real in that movie. I do agree that this movie does have a feel of SW because it was shot in real locations.....desert, forest, and snow!!!!

@blackandyellow

It won't come out on HBO. HBO only airs quality programming.

He was creative and original enough for me, while I also recognized that he was going back to a lot of beats from A New Hope. So what? It's not like it was the exact same story (unless A New Hope was about the search for a legendary Jedi master and I missed that bit), and there were lots of new elements too. But hey, if someone can't enjoy such an awesome movie with great characters and a strong emotional center because some of it was like an earlier movie in the saga, it's nothing to me. I just like debating this stuff.

The same can be said about people who are not admitting this movie had many flaws..........

"fanboy lynch mobs"

Or, ya know, people who simply enjoyed a fun movie instead of complete and utterly miserable toolbags that hate on absolutely everything because they have miserable lives.

@DoctorCranium

You may not want to lump me and @blackandyellow into that. Considering we generally enjoy most things, and just love bagging on Star Wars because they're awfully terrible films.

Even the fans of this movie admit it's mainly the nostalgia factor that they enjoy. That's why so many were disappointed in the lack of R2D2 and Luke.

Fans seem to have blinders on. Just like when Phantom Menace first came out and people jumped on the bandwagon, and then realized the PT as a whole was terrible.
