In Summer 2014, the world’s most revered monster is reborn as Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures unleash the epic action adventure “Godzilla.” From visionary new director Gareth Edwards (“Monsters”) comes a powerful story of human courage and reconciliation in the face of titanic forces of nature, when the awe-inspiring Godzilla rises to restore balance as humanity stands defenseless.

Gareth Edwards directs “Godzilla,” which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson (“Kick-Ass”), Oscar® nominee Ken Watanabe (“The Last Samurai,” “Inception”), Elizabeth Olsen (“Martha Marcy May Marlene”), Oscar® winner Juliette Binoche (“The English Patient,” “Cosmopolis”), and Sally Hawkins (“Blue Jasmine”), with Oscar® nominee David Strathairn (“Good Night, and Good Luck.,” “The Bourne Legacy”) and Bryan Cranston (“Argo,” TV’s “Breaking Bad”).

GODZILLA will stomp into theaters May 16, 2014.

Why does it seem like the scenes represented in the art by Frank Hong would have been better than what we saw in the third act of the movie. Still a good film!

Godzilla was great, it completely delivered. Getting really tired of all the negativity. It was like Jaws and Jurassic Park smashed together, except with Godzilla..Some people just can't be appeased though, I guess.

Same here. most of the old toho Godzilla films only had Godzilla in it for 20-30 Minutes. I thought the build u to the final fight scene was great.

Exactly what I was going to say! People are complaining of not enough screen time yet if you watch the original Gojira, he is a mystery for most of the film which is what makes it exciting! Plus compared to the 90's remake this is the proper Godzilla and not some giant lizard running around and laying eggs!!!

At first I was dissapointed it took sooooo long for Godzilla to appear but it's like the original Jaws movie, less is more..build up the suspense before showing the creature.
The sequel will have no reason to wait & give us much more of the big guy,so overall it's a pretty good movie.

This film was great, a good starting off point. And if Godzilla had been on screen every 20 secs blowing stuff up then it would have become old real fast. As it was it had a great build up and the last act has amazing shots and visuals.

If you want things going non-stop kablooey, transformers is out soon

Moviegoers today are so spoiled. It's a good thing movies like Jaws and Jurassic Park came out when they did.

I don't care that there wasn't a lot of Zilla, but when cutaways & wasted time is taken up by boring, 2-d, uninteresting characters, it becomes a problem.

unlike jaws and Jurassic park godzilla didn't have interesting human characters. also of the little action that takes place was in the day time would have been nice

if they had put in more Cranston and Wantanabe it would have been better . ATJs wooden performance killed the movie

For a character who deactivates bombs for a living(focus) and had suppressed such the loss that he did in the film, in the manner that which he did, I thought Aaron Taylor-Johnson did a good job!

I enjoyed it! Dug the slow burn.

Movie was a huge prick-tease and not much more. All this crap about the original movie not showing a lot of Godzilla is bullshit. That movie can get away with it because it was the first time ANYONE was going to see the monster. This is the umpteenth Godzilla film, hiding what he looks like is never going to have the same effect, every fanboys and his distant relations KNOW Godzilla by now.

They wasted the move with way too many aftermath shots of destruction rather than have three or four decent monster fights that built up to the final showdown. They even reduced the first fight to a news report on a televison for crissakes. Godzilla shouldn't be competing for the spotlight let alone screen time in his own movie because these idiots want to shoe-horn some stupid c-grade action hero and his family life story.

Great creature design and action when it finally happened but 2 hours of superfluous character development of people who had zero need to be fleshed out as much as they were. 5/10

@Ceejay

Im entirely convinced you wouldnt really be happy with anything that was done.
If there were more fights you would have said they got boring, because Godzilla wouldnt be doing any "final" damage towards them till the end of the movie or should simply be blasting them to hell with his radiation breath.
if he showed up too often with full views of himself, Godzilla woulda been "boring" and they should have left some air of mystery surrounding him with a big reveal and you would have also stated that they needed more character development with the human characters, saying they were merely 2d charicatures with no growth. or context in a movie with giant effing monsters fighting and creating wanton destruction.

Everything you complained about seemed like notpicking from a spoiled moviegoer. tell me your opinion of Pacific Rim as well. im honestly curious

The original Gojira movie was released 60 years ago. Godzilla is an iconic character, but lets be honest, unless you are a fan you haven't seen much of him outside of the below average 90s debauchery of the character (which on top of it butchered one of the greatest rock songs of all-time). As far as the human element, every Godzilla movie is going to have that because Godzilla doesn't have much dialogue other than "SKEE-AAARNK!" or "SKEE-AAARNGH!" so you have to have humans to push the movie along. This is a movie about humans living with monsters, not Godzilla living with humans... although that would be a pretty interesting take on it.

I saw this movie as a fresh start and I thought they nailed it. The director even said while he was filming it that it would be an homage to the original. I understand people wanting to see more of him throughout, but wasn't that the point? Now we're going to get a sequel so maybe just be happy about that :)

I enjoyed this take on Godzilla. But remember its a no win situation with this Genre. You don't show enough of big G and we complain. You get tons of Monster mash (Pacific Rim) and the complaint is overkill. I personally love these type of movies so i'll sit back and hope for more Godzilla and Pacific Rim along with crossed finger for King Kong, Giant Robot, Ultraman, Gamera, Rodan, You get the picture right.LOL!

I guess the radiation from that giant nuclear bomb wasn't a problem for those people in the football stadium at the end of the movie.

Would people stop comparing this bore-fest to classics like Alien, Jaws, and Jurassic Park? Those movies had engaging characters that had us invested before the big payoff. Meh-zilla failed to do that.

I believe the thrill and hiding of the Godzilla-action was done brilliantly, it really had you on the edge of the chair.

All those complaining that this movie is bad because Godzilla was not enough time on action are nuts, the action sequences were impressive and totally worth the wait. If you want 2 hour straight of big guys fighting and tearing cities apart go see Transformers!
