RUMOR: STAR WARS: EPISODE VII Villains Will Be "Jedi Hunters"

The website, makingstarwars.net, claims they have reliable sources working at Pinewood Studios, and those source have informed the site that the Star Wars VII villains will be "Jedi Hunters" like the Inquisitor in Star Wars Rebels. Check it out!

We don't know a whole heck of a lot about the new Star Wars trilogy that is being led by J.J. Abrams. Only things we really know is that the film will be set 30 years after Return of the Jedi and will feature some of your favorite characters from the original trilogy. We've heard lots and lots of rumors pertaining to the new trilogy and today we have some regarding the villains in the film. These new rumors come to us from the site, MakingStarWars, via slashfilm.com.

Their sources have heard Star Wars: Episode VII villains being reffered to as “Jedi Hunters” by crew members working on the film at Pinewood. These villains are "dressed in black, some helmeted, that hunt Jedi for the Empire." When more details were given MakingStarWars realized these "Jedi Hunters" sounded quite a bit like the Inquisitor (Empire's Jedi Hunter) from the new animated series, Star Wars Rebels, which is set five years before the original trilogy. Their sources weren't familiar with that character, but once it was explained to them they agreed over the similarities.

Sounds like we can expect some great lightsaber duels as "these hunters use lightsabers." Another source added that "they had the impression the Jedi were fighting this group for a very long time."

They also claim that David Oyelowo, who portrayed the head of the biotechnology company Gen-Sys in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, will be "voicing one of the three villains in the film." That's the first time we've heard of that rumor as in the past Jedi News also made that claim.

Another source says Lupita Nyong’o, Adam Driver, and David Oyelowo are making up the cast of villains in the film and they’re “Jedi Hunters.” They also said Lupita might wear “yellow contact lenses” in the film as she was seen trying them out and walking around with them some time ago to try them out. The villains are said to be characterized by black and chrome with troopers in similar black and chrome uniforms. They’re very imperial, but very new. My sense is these guys are like General Grievous’ Magna Guards from Revenge of the Sith (my analogy not from a source).

Supposedly the “Jedi Hunters” or Inquisitors (from the sound of things) are the reason there is no New Republic after Return of the Jedi. That’s right, they’re saying there is no New Republic. Source #2 claims to have been on set for a sequence in which we learn the Jedi Hunters worship the Sith and want to resurrect them. Their mandate was to protect the Sith at all costs and insure their survival.

This source also believes Luke Skywalker has been fighting to stop this for the last thirty years of his life, but he is outnumbered, tired, and in need of help. The bad guys have a goal: The resurrection of the Sith and it “sounds like it happens in the next film” meaning Episode VIII and “I guess they kill him (said resurrected Sith) in IX.” - MakingStarWars

Star Wars: Episode VII - Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, David Oyelowow, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong'o and Gwendoline Christie will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film. It's being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on December 18, 2015.

Booby Fat. The best booty hunter in the galaxy. Getting good use of that 2 feet pocket rocket.
I dont understand why the rebels have anything to fear.. an entire legion of the finest troops in thröe most evil empire ever got beaten by a bunch of powerless Care Bears. Perhaps this time the rebels can seek shelter in Equestria and watch Rainbow Dash, Twilight Sparkle and Pinky Pie hoove kick the butt of the enemy.

If this really is what J.J will be doing than what a waste. The new trilogy should feel like it needs to be made even though it doesn't. The story has to be something that the previous trilogy was hinting towards without it even knowing. The Yuzzang Vonh or whatever they're called aren't Star Wars villains but they do introduce an interesting element from what I've read. Apperantely the Emperor built the empire partially to fight that race. That's a really interesting concept that brings a whole new meaning to the two previous trilogies and it's a great reason to do the sequel trilogy. They could create a whole new threat but use that element from the Vong. This just feels unecessary.

So basically Sith.

Some of you are assuming that the New Republic would be rebuilt, Jedi Order established and every one living in harmony after Star Wars Ep. VI. . . I am digging this new direction because this is something we haven't seen, the guys won the day, but they are immediately hit with another onslaught of baddies to deal with. All that Expanded Universe that took place after ROTJ isn't canon, and can easily be discarded, which will be true if this rumor pans out. And no where in the original Star Wars did they ever hint at the Vong as a threat. That is purely EU material and nothing canon. It is still in question that Star Wars: The Clone Wars is completely canon or not.

Judging from all the rumors that have surfaced and casting picks, it looks like VII will be heading into a darker direction like this.

Clear spoiler violation in the subject line. Poor form, Nail, poor form.

*Regardless if it's a "rumor" or not as we all know that some rumors do become fact.

Jedi Hunters who aren't Sith - fine. Sith return? Not fine. Also, working for the Empire? The Empire needs to be done. I'll keep an open mind until I hear more solid details though.

That would be really cool. I was hoping they'd steer away from the Sith returning, at least for this film, and this sounds like the perfect way to do that.

Something I am a bit worried about is the implication that, despite technically defeating the Empire thirty years before this movie, nothing has changed in that time. I'm all for the Rebel vs Empire war continuing, but I really hope we can at least see that the balance has shifted - rather than a small group opposing the rest of the universe, I hope now it'll be two very similar groups (in terms of size, strength, etc.) coming into conflict on a fairly large scale. Perhaps this movie will put the "War" in "Star Wars".

If you remember Atton Rand in Kotor 2 was a jedi hunter, should be pretty sweet

hmm...So these new villains hunt Jedi, dress in black and use lightsabers...but aren't considered Sith? Additionally, said villains haven't been mentioned in the films up to this point or even hinted at lol (until perhaps when Rebels airs) lol

Interesting, if not somewhat contrived tbh

@Comedian Jedi aren't literally extinct, because they aren't a species. The prequels actually happened, so there is a never-ending pool from which to find and train new Jedi.
