From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team—the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel's “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits—Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand—with the galaxy's fate in the balance.

Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, featuring Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, with John C. Reilly, Glenn Close as Commander Rael and Benicio del Toro as The Collector. James Gunn is the director and the story is by Nicole Perlman and James Gunn, with screenplay by James Gunn. It releases in U.S. theaters on August 1, 2014.

Groot was a great character, powerful but also giving and emotional...

I guess having shorter extensions at the top of the head (Branches) does make him seem more Alien like that resembles a tree. If the extensions were any longer he would of Really looked like an actual walking tree...Literally

@DeusExSponge- That seriously needs to be Quill's look in the sequel

@DuesEXSponge The Groot concept art is awesome but he looked kinda mean. Creepy feel.

Alexander - Judging by his appearance at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy, I doubt it. But there's nearly 3 years left before we get to see the Guardians again, so maybe there's a chance that his appearance will change.

I would say yes, because he had longer extensions on his head when he was in the pot

Not a lot longer but it felt noticeable
XelCorp

@AlexanderLykins- I was thinking he would have a slight change in appearance seeing that everyone else will be getting new looks (Outfit wise atleast) to keep things fresh. They can easily get away with it by saying that each time he regrows himself it alters his appearance causing him to look slightly different each time

Marvel1997 - Agreed! I loved the way they all looked in the movie, but I was sort of disappointed when Marvel unveiled what they would look like in the movie. I honestly prefer the concept art when it comes to Drax, Gamora and Quill. I'm hoping that they'll change it so that it'll be a mix between this concept art and the movies costume.

SmellofDuty - I agree, now that I know what Marvel is going for when it comes to adapting Groot to the big screen. I don't think the concept art would be suitable for Groot.

The concept art Groot wouldn't fit the gentle giant/cutesy vibe Gunn was going for with Groot in the movie.

Groot was awesome. He's like a lost puppy on the inside but a stone cold badass on the outside.

Want to see these in the sequel considering Groot can grow and shrink at will. Never saw the Gamora concept art can someone send me a link?

It's crazy seeing how far the character designs have come since Marvel put out that 1st bit of concept art. I'm assuming they hadn't cast any of the actors yet, but with the exception of Quill, they certainly improved on each character in a BIG way. An important part of getting us to love them was how they looked, and they knocked it out of the park.

Much like Hulk did in the Avengers movie, Groot stole the show! He and Rocket are like Marvel's incarnations of Han and Chewie.
