The Conjuring spinoff Annabelle may have finished in second at the box office this weekend to David Fincher's Gone Girl, but Warner Bros. isn't losing any sleep over it as the film pulled in a healthy $37M. With numbers that good you would have to expect a sequel is in store for the possessed doll. Could her next film be a battle with Chucky? Don't count on it, but maybe down the road.
"I am hoping that at some future point we have Annabelle and Chucky team up," says Child's Play creator Don Mancini. "I can see that (even) in 20 years from now."
Mancini has written all of the film's in the Child's Play franchise, and directed the last one, Curse of Chucky, which went straight to video-on-demand. Even though interest in the series has dwindled over the decades there is still enough of an interest to warrant a seventh film, which Mancini is currently writing. Could Annabelle make a cameo in that one? "We would be into it, the only problem is that we are in different studios. That would probably be years worth of red tape to work it out," says Mancini. "But if it all could be worked out, then yes, we're very into it."
Hey, if we can get a Freddy Vs. Jason film I don't see why we can't eventually get a Chucky Vs. Annabelle film too. As Mancini mentioned, this would require Universal (owns Chucky) and Warner Bros. (own Annabelle) to work out an arrangement.
She terrified you in “The Conjuring,” but this is where it all began for Annabelle. Capable of unspeakable evil, the actual doll exists locked up in an occult museum in Connecticut—visited only by a priest who blesses her twice a month. New Line Cinema’s supernatural thriller “Annabelle” begins before the evil was unleashed. John Form has found the perfect gift for his expectant wife, Mia—a beautiful, rare vintage doll in a pure white wedding dress. But Mia’s delight with Annabelle doesn’t last long. On one horrific night, their home is invaded by members of a satanic cult, who violently attack the couple. Spilled blood and terror are not all they leave behind. The cultists have conjured an entity so malevolent that nothing they did will compare to the sinister conduit to the damned that is now...Annabelle.
