Stephen King Hints Josh Boone's THE STAND Will Be Split Into 2 Films

The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone has finished the script for his film adaptation of Stephen King's good vs. evil novel, The Stand. Boone has previously stated his film would be three-hours long, but now it may be split into two films.

M-O-O-N, that spells mo-money. Last month, Josh Boone ("The Fault In Our Stars") revealed that he finished the script for his adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand. That's impressive. As anyone who has read the book knows how long it takes to get through the 1,000-plus-page novel. Now just imagine how difficult it is to condense it into one three-hour long film as Josh Boone has previously stated. Author Stephen King now informs us that one film may not be enough for Boone.

I think that his take is terrific — and don’t count on it being one film,” Stephen King told MTV. “There’s talk about doing it in an entirely different and innovative way, and I don’t want to go into it because that’s Josh’s baby.”

One man escapes from a biological weapon facility after an accident, carrying with him the deadly virus known as Captain Tripps, a rapidly mutating flu that - in the ensuing weeks - wipes out most of the world's population. In the aftermath, survivors choose between following an elderly black woman to Boulder or the dark man, Randall Flagg, who has set up his command post in Las Vegas. The two factions prepare for a confrontation between the forces of good and evil.

I really hope Matthew Mcconaughey plays the villain. Never read the book but it sounds like it could be incredible.

Nice. Hopefully it's done well. Stephen King novels have always been hit and miss with movie adaptations.

I want to see Dean Koontz's Frankenstein series made into a miniseries or two-part movie.

This is actually the one book that NEEDS to be split into two. Now, I am not sure about the last Harry Potter film as I had not seen that nor read the books BUT I am positive the last Twilight film did not need to be split into two. THIS cannot be a good film while be just one movie. In fact, it will still be tough with two. IF they get funding for three then we might have another, if not more violent and darker, LOTR on our hands.

@ObjectivelyBiased
There was no need for HP7 to be slpit in two. The book's not as big as Order of the Phoenix.

I just recently read this myself and I'm just now discovering a film's happening, so all I have to say, is [frick] yeah! Make it two movies, it deserves and needs them.

It should be at least 3 films. I have zero confidence in this.

King at his peak (with this book). One of his true stand outs.
Yeah it' was done as mini-series about 20 years ago! I think THAT is an appropriate amount of time after which a "reboot" or (more accurately) a re-make can be made. Less than that and you're just clogging up the metaphorical shelf space when other movies can be made.

By the way, the mini series was pretty good. The only aspect I didn't like was the actor playing Flagg. He was awful. But the tone of that series was fantastic as were many of the performances.

@MercWithMouth

Dean Koontz Frankenstein was originally developed as a TV show for USA. They insisted on screwing with the idea so much that he just said to hell with it and released it as the books. I though the first 2 were great and te after te long wait, he ended it like sh*t.

I haven't read The Dead Town yet. Is it not good? The first four are fantastic. I love the new approach to Frankenstein.
