Robert Downey Jr. Open To AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Appearance

Marvel Studios have proved time and time again that they can create successful films, however, that success hasn't translated in their television series, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. It could use a Robert Downey Jr. appearance to boost them sagging ratings.

Earlier today, Robert Downey Jr. ("Chef") participated in a Reddit AMA to help promote his new film, The Judge. During it, he was asked by one user if he would open to appearing in the second season of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. "Nothing is impossible. But there might be a fair amount of red tape involved in something like that," Downey Jr. explained, "I love Clark Gregg, and am pleased the show is doing so well."

The first season of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. included guest appearances from Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) and Sif (Jaimie Alexander). Even with all of that the show has been struggling in the ratings. Could the ratings get a much needed lift if Iron Man/Tony Stark dropped in to say hello? Probably, but the true question is: would those extra viewers tune in the following week? No clue, but it's probably worth a shot.
In the wake of The Battle of New York, the world has changed forever. An extraordinary landscape of wonders has been revealed! In response, mysteriously resurrected Agent Phil Coulson assembles an elite team of skilled agents and operatives: Melinda May, Grant Ward, Leo Fitz, Jemma Simmons and new recruit/computer hacker Skye. Together, they investigate the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary. But every answer unearths even more tantalizing questions that reverberate across the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe: Who is "The Clairvoyant”? What is Hydra’s sinister master plan? What dark secret lies behind Skye’s puzzling origins? And most importantly of all, who can be trusted?

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” stars Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Chloe Bennet as Skye, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May, Brett Dalton as Agent Grand Ward, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz and Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons.

It would be nice to have him stand there and make jokes, maybe offer a job to Skye at Stark Industries, but I would rather have someone who could actually fight like Black Widow, Captain America, or Hawkeye.

How about instead of making Avengers 3 a movie it could be a 2 part special episode on Agents of Shield? Huh clever idea huh guys? Meaning Marvel fans would surely have to watch the show!

Show is just ok. It would benefit from having cameos from the MCU actors/characters.
It wouldn't be gimmicky either,it's the same universe.

If absolutely nothing else, it would be nice to have some actual reaction to Coulson not being dead anymore.

@0mega

To be honest though, I wish he would have remained dead. I think Stark became a lot more interesting for me when Coulson died, given it was the first time he had shown some honest humility since the first Iron Man film.

Seeing Tony's reaction to Coulson being alive would be something I'd love to see. It'd be nice if he interacts with the main cast too.

"just look at twitter and you'll see AoShit is far from quality"

Could you be slightly more specific in your instructions? I went to twitter.com and looked at it for a while, but it kinda just asked me to sign up instead of warning me about the lack of quality AoS is suffering from. (O_o)'

I'm getting so tired of people bragging about AoS ratings. Do you know how Nielsen ratings work? They sample "random" families (you must either volunteer and be accepted or be invited and accept). However, the amount of families is somewhere between 5000 and 30000 (based on a few different sources, Nielsen does not readily disclose this information) but even that high estimate is less than 00.03% of television viewers. Nielsen has very little transparency on the system since advertisers heavily rely on these ratings. It's a complete joke. If a TV series based off the highest grossing movie in the US in the last 5 years, not to mention the 3rd all-time highest grossing movie in the US, is NOT getting good ratings, that's just sad. The number of people familiar with the franchise far outweighs most franchises, let alone standalone shows that create a viewership on their own merit. AoS is also on ABC which is the 3rd largest network, and has over twice the amount of affiliate stations as CW which is the 5th largest but pales in comparison to the Big 4 in terms of availability and exposure. The fact that AoS ratings are going down so much means that even their small sample of households are getting sick of the show, and the fact that viewers are DVR'ing it instead of watching it live means that viewer confidence is going down. The Nielsen system is a joke, it can be influenced by money and politics, and the most valuable piece of information is the trend, not the amount, and the trend shows that AoS is just not doing well and deservingly so.

In ten years the major media conglomerates (WB/Disney/Fox) are going to be recruiting actors straight out of drama school in lifelong exclusive contracts.

Mark my words.
