Today at New York Comic-Con, IGN interviewed Len Wiseman ("Total Recall") about the future of the Underworld franchise. He said a few things are currently being developed as they hope to expand the universe. He first referenced the spinoff, which was recently announced. That'll feature the Divergent star Theo James. He'll be reprising his role ('David') from Underworld: Awakening. Fans of the series were bummed by that news as it appeared Kate Beckinsale ("Click") was done playing 'Selene' but her husband indicates that isn't the case. Wiseman told IGN, "Another film is being developed with Kate (Beckinsale), possibly as well." Additionally, Wiseman says a television series based on the vampires vs. werewolves franchise is also in the works. You can listen to the interview below.
Underworld Awakening - Kate Beckinsale, star of the first two films, returns in her lead role as the vampire warrioress Selene, who escapes imprisonment to find herself in a world where humans have discovered the existence of both Vampire and Lycan clans, and are conducting an all out war to eradicate both immortal species.

Awesome. I don't care that the movies were bad. I enjoyed them and I enjoyed her in them. Guilty pleasure I guess.

All these cinematic universes are making cinema more like television. Which is funny because all the "serious actors" are claiming that television is the place to go now for mature storytelling thanks to the new blockbuster franchise mentality of Hollywood....which makes television more like film before the 2000s.

I told my friend who doesn't watch Arrow that the Flash and Arrow are having a crossover event, and he was all like "God damn it, it's just like the comic books now. I have to read a different title that I don't buy to understand what's going on in the one I do."

The first three movies were good, but the fourth just ruined the franchise.

They should have kept exploring the early days of Lycan vs. Vampire war. That way they could've kept using the two best characters of the whole franchise, Lucian and Viktor.

They need to explore the origins of the war with the story of Alexander Corvinus who is the father of the werewolves and vampires. Derek Jacobi could even come back.

A TV series is unnecessary.

I'll watch another Underworld movie with Kate Beckinsale in it though.

If she had been chosen to be Wonder Woman she wouldn't have to do a series. The star of Underworld starring in the TV series version is a plus.
