Last year around this time, Clive Barker ("Lord of Illusions") revealed on his official facebook page that he was writing a reboot of 1987's Hellraiser, which is based on the novella The Hellbound Heart. Since then we haven't heard anything about it, until Entertainment Weekly recently posted a new article featuring Clive Barker. In the piece, we learn that Barker sent a second draft of the script to Dimension Films chief Bob Weinstein (producer) a short time ago. Barker also discussed some details regarding the film's plot.
"I think the phrase is ‘reboot,’ although I’ve never really understood what that meant. I wanted to make sure we sounded some fresh notes. The movie actually begins on Devil’s Island. I wanted to fold into the Hellraiser narrative something about the guy—the Frenchman Lemarchand—who made the mysterious box, which raises Pinhead. I figured, ‘Well, what would have happened to him?’ He might well have been taken to Devil’s Island and I thought that would be a pretty cool place to start the movie. We’re waiting for Bob to come back to us and see when we’re going to actually make the movie." - Clive Barker
Hellraiser (1987) - From horror master Clive Barker comes this chilling nightmare featuring the first appearance of the hideous, demonic Pinhead. When Kirsty Cotton’s family moves into their ancestral home, they are terrorized by the resurrected corpse of her uncle, who requires the flesh of murdered innocent victims in order to become whole and alive again. A creepy, thrillingly perverse tale straddling heaven and hell, extreme pleasure and unbearable pain, HELLRAISER will haunt your dreams.

Actors: Clare Higgins, Ashley Laurence, Andrew Robinson, & Sean Chapman
Director: Clive Barker

He still scares me. I've gotten over most of my childhood fears of slasher characters, but I still get chills when I see Pinhead.

I love me some hell raiser, but is the kind of story you never need a reboot. Just go back to the basics. Stay out of space, and rave parties. No need to retell the origins again. Drop the box into the next unwitting soul lap, and raise hell.

Oh Hellraiser, the franchise the Wienstien's wiped their bloody assholes with. Wanna see an abortion? Check out Hellraiser: Revelations. It is to horror as Cormans Fantastic Four is to Comic Book Movies.

I love Clive and I'm glad he's involved with the remake. I have doubts it will see the light of day unless it leaves Dimension. Dimension doesn't have any invested interest in producing any good horror. They still haven't released Livide state side and have given criminally underwhelming support to a slew of titles they have acquired. Including another fantastic graphic novel adaptation Snowpiercer.

Now that his lawsuit is over, he's off the Hollywood blacklist and ready to work. I'm pumped for another Hellraiser film, especially since the comics have shown how the story can go further as a sequel to the original four films.
Personally, I think the studios are missing out on the big picture: A shared universe with Cenobites, LeMarchand, Nightbreed, Tortured Souls, Jericho, and Harry D'amour. They could build the horror equivalent of what Marvel is doing.

The first two were good. The others..........really not good. Craft services must be amazing in hell because Pinhead kept getting fatter and fatter after the second film.

The first two are my shizz. Once you get to part 3, you can see the downfall of the franchise.

I do kinda like Bloodline and the one with the cop.

"I wanted to make sure we sounded some fresh notes." I'm not sure I know what THAT phrase means.

Hellraiser is the map for all possible trajectories of 80's/90's horror franchises. Some started going to straight to video (Wishmaster, Prophecy; some went to space (Friday the 13th, Leprechaun); others went into Cyberspace (Halloween); others suddenly took place in Romania cause that was the cheapest place to film (The Prophecy).

Hellraiser did ALL of those! The only thing the Hellraiser franchise didn't do was a vs. movie. But that almost happened when Dimension films put up an online poll hor whether or not they should make Michael Meyers v Pinhead. The vote was close but it was voted down.

What I can't understand is in this age of everyone wanting a shared cinematic universe why these folks haven't gotten together to make a shared universe with all these slasher characters. You could set them all up to take on Pinhead. Granted it would be difficult to pull off when most of your characters aren't really talkers. But I bet it'd work.

These were never very good. I just watched the first two last weekend on Netflix. A reboot where they explain more about the maker and the box/pinhead would be the best wy to go so hopefully Barker can make a better film now...

In the original book Pinhead hadn't scars and nails in the head, he had tattoos with nails. Also he hadn't a deep voice, it literally said...

"Its voice (...) was light and breathy-the voice of an excited girl. Every inch of its head had been tattooed with an intricate grid, and at every intersection of horizontal and vertical axes a jeweled pin driven through to the bone. Its tongue was similarly decorated."

Yingyangpalms - You are actually saying Monty Python is no good? Black Adder no good? I almost feel like saying Ni to you right now, but that would not be a very cunning plan I guess.
