Mark Wahlberg Says SIX BILLION DOLLAR MAN Is A "Superhero" Movie

While promoting his new movie The Gambler, Mark Wahlberg chatted with the entertainment website, Collider, about his upcoming film project The Six Billion Dollar Man. Though, he won't get to it until he has finished Deep Water Horizon.

You could've referred to Mark Wahlberg ("The Gambler") as the billion dollar man based on the box office performance of his last film Transformers: Age of Extinction. Apparently, that wasn't good enough for Marky Mark as we'll be referring to him as The Six Billion Dollar Man in the near future. Last month, is was reported that Wahlberg would team up with his Lone Survivor director Peter Berg ("Hancock") for a film adaptation of the 1970s television series The Six Million Dollar Man, aka The Bionic Man, which starred Lee Majors ("The Fall Guy").

Wahlberg briefly spoke of the project with Collider:

Any plans for you to be a superhero in the future?

WAHLBERG:  We’re talking about doing Six Billion Dollar Man, which is very much a superhero, but I don’t have to wear any kind of spandex cape.  So that would be cool.  Howard Gordon is writing the script and people are talking about doing it, but we got a great, great idea and it’s something that’s been in the pipeline for quite some time, so hopefully if we get the script right maybe we’ll make it after we do the Deep Water Horizon.

Agreed! The Bionic Man sounds so much better.

I hope "Lone Survivor", "The Kingdom" Peter Berg shows up instead of "Battleship" Peter Berg.

He's too unattractive to play Steve Austin. Moreover, his past racist thugish punk violence turn me off, big time.

You're all pissed because he did something stupid when he was a teenager. Really?

[frick]ing really??? Everyone makes mistakes, especially as teenagers. Cut the guy a little slack, he's now a father and a respected actor. That shows a lot of developed maturity.

I just hope they don't ruin another childhood memory. They have to have Lee Majors, Lindsey Wagner, and Richard Anderson cameos.

This is sci-fi...not a CBM.

Marky mark is certainly no Lee Majors. That guy bedded Farrah Fawcett. As a guy who had her famous poster hung on his wall in the late 70s, I salute you sir.

The movie should be called Cyborg since the TV series was based on the novel of that name by Martin Caidin.

Marky Mark as Steve Austin is damn near blasphemy.

Though I do agree with his assertion that Austin is a "superhero" that doesn't require a cape and spandex, I just can't find any way to tweak my imagination and suspension of disbelief enough to convince me to like Marky Mark in that role. As far as casting goes, it's the square peg in a round hole if ever there were one.

I have enjoyed a scant few select performances of his, but this one would be a pass just because it would see me bleaching my own eyes after seeing the film.

I call trainwreck.

I love that they are actually making this, but it's not billion...they should just call it The Cyborg from the original novel that inspired the original series.

UltronMk7 - 12/25/2014, 7:18 AM
The original series was before my time, so I don't have any emotional attachment to the source material. I think Whalberg is a decent actor, don't have a problem with him taking on this role. Just hoping the script is right. Really don't know anything about the style of the show, but are we envisioning a big popcorn movie? Spy type stuff?
Gruff

Note to Mark Whalberg - do yourself a favour and don't make this movie, it will flop. No one's interested. It's nearly 2015 and bionics are becoming a reality. What was once science fiction and good TV in the 70's is now becoming science fact and bad TV in 2015. Remember, The Bionic Woman remake didn't last very long either.

Save yourself the embarrassment and do something original.

That is all!

So just curious does anyone see the irony that the man set to play a man with a bionic eye is responsible for blinding another man in one eye?
