In an interview with Larry King, Patrick Stewart ("Star Trek: The Next Generation") delivered some sad news. When asked if he was going to be in the next X-Men film, Stewart replied, "No. Nor Sir Ian McKellen, either." Wow, not only is Stewart's Professor Charles Xavier not going to be in it, but McKellen's master of magnetism Erik Lehnsherr, aka Magneto, won't appear either. That's a bummer, man.
"I was learning quite a lot more about it last night, and it is going to be looking very much at the earlier lives of all our characters," Stewart added. And so I don’t think we’ll be making an appearance.
As shocking as it seems at first, I guess it makes sense. We already knew that Singer was shopping for younger versions of Cyclops, Storm and Jean Grey, so based on that how do you shoehorn Stewart and McKellen into the film? I assumed because they've been so important to 20th Century Fox's franchise, and that they're both beloved by fans, that they would find a way of including them. Even if it was just a cameo. Guess that won't happen. Out with the old, in with the new.
