Patrick Stewart & Ian McKellen Won't Appear In X-MEN: APOCALYPSE

Shocking news! Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, two actors that have appeared in every X-Men film except for X-Men: First Class were not asked back for Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse. Hit the jump to voice your opinion.

In an interview with Larry King, Patrick Stewart ("Star Trek: The Next Generation") delivered some sad news. When asked if he was going to be in the next X-Men film, Stewart replied, "No. Nor Sir Ian McKellen, either." Wow, not only is Stewart's Professor Charles Xavier not going to be in it, but McKellen's master of magnetism Erik Lehnsherr, aka Magneto, won't appear either. That's a bummer, man.

"I was learning quite a lot more about it last night, and it is going to be looking very much at the earlier lives of all our characters," Stewart added. And so I don’t think we’ll be making an appearance.

As shocking as it seems at first, I guess it makes sense. We already knew that Singer was shopping for younger versions of Cyclops, Storm and Jean Grey, so based on that how do you shoehorn Stewart and McKellen into the film? I assumed because they've been so important to 20th Century Fox's franchise, and that they're both beloved by fans, that they would find a way of including them. Even if it was just a cameo. Guess that won't happen. Out with the old, in with the new.

Well that's depressing, but it isn't a shock either, because they both are in the future and not the past.

Fine with this. Fassbender and McAvoy are better anyways. And I love Stewart and McKellan, but those guys are just amazing.

good. i thought that moment with magneto almost dying and pro x reaching out to him is a fantastic way to end their reign as these characters.

besides, i still think mcavoy and fassbender are better. james mcavoy is probably the best thing about the new x men. and whats fitting is that both patrick and ian are friends in real life and so are james and micheal

Unless we have a future scene, I don't think they are needed.

Yeah, isn't this completely expected? I thought it had been all but confirmed that they weren't going to be in Apocalypse. And now it's confirmed.

everyone knew this... the only old cast that will appear is wolverine. its not sad. i just hope they dont over crowd and use character that have a purpose. every character in DOFP were used great even if they didnt speak. those future fight scenes were epic.

Im fine with this. The reunion was the appeal of Dofp, but I want Apocalypse to be its own thing, not a repeat of Dofp.

Still, Kinberg told that 'some' original actors will appear, so.... interesting. Would be nice seeing Marsden, Paquin, and maybe Alan and Ben Foster making an appearance, but maybe as a cliffanger, or post credits, to tease next movie in present time

I have to be honest, this kind of sucks. I always loved these two actors through out the X-Men movies but i guess in a way it's introducing the new actors for the roles of Magneto and Xavier.

I think they both got pretty good send-offs in Days of Future Past. Less so for Magneto but maybe we'll see him in the new timeline in the extended edition.

That means no present day scenes.

Fox should have went with an Age of Apocalypse pt 1 and pt 2. That saga DOES deserve a two parts.

Sadly Marvel and Warner moved first. now if fox did it, everyone will say they are copying the other studios

Still, hopefully Fox has huge plans for Apocalypse and he shows up again in two years in present time, to bring the ultimate battle against the adult Xmen (and maybe F4 too)

How is this shocking?

Fingers crossed Apocalypse is better than the trash DOFP.

No shit, the only thing that got everyone into DOFP was that dangling +1 movie everyone still had from their X3 contract. I'd be more shocked if anyone but Jackman from the original trilogy was still under contract.

And of course the movie based on an alternate future storyline will take place in the past. It's the foX-men, they only do what makes sense in the short-term and J-Law, so hot right now.

FOX screwed up the continuity with this franchise so badly the only thing that can save it is giving it an entire reboot which they already did but then went along and screwed that one up as well by incorporating the reboot with the other movies.

IMO the only thing that will ever save it is an actual time traveller going back and rewriting history to cause this discombobulation of nonsense from ever existing, or hope someone can track down a leprechaun who will grant them a wish for FOX to revert the rights back to MARVEL.

Right now this entire franchise is a total mess and is why it has become so unappealing to so many people. Help us Obi Wan Kenobi, you're our only hope.

well, at some point you have to move on, and for what its worth dofp was a pretty high note on which to depart the series, especially compared to the last stand and origins
