Fox Is Considering Bringing THE X-FILES Back To TV

The truth is out there! At the Television Critics Association, Fox revealed that they have been discussing the possibility of reviving the Chris Carter's science-fiction television series The X-Files.

Earlier today, Fox TV Group chairman Gary Newman announced plans to revive The X-Files, which ran from 1993 to 2002. "We've had some conversations on X-Files and we're hopeful that we'll bring that back," said Newman. Fox Television Group chairmen and CEO Dana Walden said currently there is a "timing issue," but they have reached out to series creator Chris Carter and stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny. No further details were provided and both Newman and Walden stressed that it is too early in the process to announce anything officially.

Fox previously hit a home run when they revived Keifer Sutherland's 24 and its success led Fox to look back into their vault for some more goodies. Clearly, The X-Files is one of their most prized properties as it received 21 Emmy nominations during its run and spunoff a television show ("The Lone Gunmen"), two movies, comic books and video games.

But would Gillian Anderson want to play Dana Scully again? “I would be f***king overjoyed,” Anderson told Chris Hardwick during a recent Nerdist Podcast.

Would you watch X-Files if they brought back its original creator and stars?

Two agents from vastly different backgrounds join forces to solve cases the FBI has labeled X-Files, involving paranormal or unexplained phenomena. Both are determined to uncover hidden truths — one searching for otherworldly answers, the other for more earthbound scientific explanations. Together they will make discoveries neither could have ever imagined.

I pretty much knew this was going to happen as more and more shows from back in the day come back. The only problem is if they follow the X-Files timeline, it would have to be more of a survival show with Mulder and Scully and I assume two other (younger) leads fight off the alien colonization. I would watch it if they brought it back though.

It'd be the perfect way to wrap up the alien colonization story and its less risky then a movie. Do it!!!

I don't know if I want a techincally Mulder and Scully X-Files show -although I would like them to appear in a recurring capcity to keep the continuity. I think using their son, William, who has supernatural abilites as lead and building a cast around him would be more interesting and allow FOX to avoid the convoluted history of the original show.

I thought Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny didn't get along very well, or was that a rumor?

I don't know Nail. It's not that I have no love for the show. I just don't trust that it would be given the proper "care" in terms of story & characterization it was once known for. Plus, you know it's not so much about bringing it back for the sake of a good/decent sci-fi show on television now anyhow. The majority of these decisions are being made primarily for the sake of the network execs trying to squeeze more $$$ out of anything they think that they can get fans to bite on (anyone seen 12 Monkeys yet?).

The size of the UF0/Conspiracy demographic has increased significantly since the show last aired. Now everyone and their MOM are conspiracy theorists because they believe everything they read online. So the potential audience for this type of show will be well received in my opinion. I will most certainly watch it if they brought it back.

After the 2nd season this show stopped being any good. This is coming from someone who just watched the first 5 seasons in the past few months. Didnt have it in me to finish the remaining 5 seasons. It was that bad.

No SciFi TV show has been as good as the X-Files since, but I'm not sure about bringing it back. Everything runs its course and the X-Files ran two series past its course. Perhaps it would work, but I'm sceptical. BTW, the lovely Gillian Anderson is outstanding in The Fall.

the thing is, the show back now will have a completely different tone, last we heard aliens were going to invade in 2012, so will the new version be post invasion, or will the invasion have been stopped already, or what?
