Here is your first look at the magazine cover for Famous Monsters of Filmland, issue #261 that ships in May. A very cool image with both the likeness of the original Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid) and Johnny Depp's likeness for the updated version of the iconic vampire role.

Synopsis (courtesy Warner Bros.): “In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet-or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy…until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles.”

Dark Shadows also stars Helena Bonham-Carter, Michelle Pfeiffer, Eva Green, Chloe Moretz and Jackie Earle Haley and will be with us May 2012.

Less than 3 months until release... and counting. Still no trailer... Art could be a little bit better on this cover though.

More Title over-sensationalizing going on I see. Different strokes for different folks, I guess, but my perception of magnificent and that cover are extremely different.

Worst main page article content I've seen on this site.

Leave it to CBM's funny members to save the day.

With a couple of pics in the comment section.

It's actually pretty terrible art. I could do better in my sleep, and I'm not one to toot my own horn

It's an okay art, but I wouldn't say "magnificent." Still, this movie looks to be like an okay flick.

@tea - LoL, you sure know how to make any article into an awesome article! Thank you, good sir! :D

Stay EPIC, my friends!

Aw. I hurt little @nailbiter111's feelings.

Can't handle the truth, I guess.

This artwork is as "magnificent" as Ron Paul's ideology :P

Christopher Walken scared the shit out of me.

Cover's ok. Titty pics are "meh" to me, since I'm a girl.

Why is lucescamarayblog getting first shot at the Dark Shadows images? It's not like DS was a Spanish-language soap.

Heard Dark Shadows will have the feel of Sleepy Hollow & Beetlejuice - sleepyjuice. Horror and comedy.

I'm surprised that we haven't seen a single Eva Green image in this entire comment section...

Wow, that really looks like shit. Very poorly rendered. I would've thought they woulda done a cover that pays tribute to one of the cool covers they did for the original series like this:

They should have got Basil Gogos. That would have rocked.

Mars Attacks ruled. Everything before Planet of the Apes was awesome.

Greetings all. I just wanted to stop by and say that your criticism is rightly warranted. When we put out that image there was a disclaimer at the bottom that the art wasn't final. That's just a sketch mock-up we used for Diamond solicitation while the painting was being finished up. The artist is Jason Edmiston who did our Vincent Price cover on 254, so you can expect the quality to be light years better than this. The final image should be out this coming week.
