RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES' Storyboards Reveal Alternate Opening

Concept artist Warren Drummond has revealed an alternate opening scene that involved another ape causing havoc and not Caesar's mom like the theatrical version.

One of the weakest moments of Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes is the opening scene. The movie overall is wonderful, but the opening requires the viewer to believe that a state-of-the-art laboratory doesn't realize that one of their apes is pregnant. I realize that pregnancies aren't as noticeable on the bodies of female chimps like they are on female humans, but still nobody noticed. This was their star chimp, the best example of the trial drug having productive results. I'm sure she went through plenty of blood tests during her examinations and those would've revealed she was with child.

In the theatrical version of the film "Bright Eyes" the ape refuses to leave her cage and attacks a technician Robert Franklin (Tyler Labine). She freaks out, runs all over the lab and crashes into the boardroom where she is shot dead. It turns out she was protecting her newborn child.

In the storyboards provided by Drummond, it's "Lucky" that's being strapped to a lab table and escaping with "Bright Eyes" help before crashing into the boardroom where he is shot. - filmsketchr

The beginning wsa the only weak part fo the movie. That scene was so stupid. Ape specialist not knowing an ape was pregnant... outstanding.

I don't recall any "Lucky" in the movie... Can anyone tell if it is a real character or a character from this storyboard?

@Gaston - Sci-fi, CBM's, action/adventure never get no respect in Hollywood. You know that!

If it did, Star Wars #4 would have won best picture.
Sharlto Copley would have won best actor for District 9, so on etc...

@Owlman, GREAT AVATAR. Daddy likes himself some BladeRunner. And I quite enjoyed ROTPOTA. Can't wait for a sequel.
