Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace take place before those...I think this one is now back to being the newest Bond story in the linear timeline

@BattlinMurdock - Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, and Skyfall are all a part of a rebooted continuity of James Bond films. She just so happened to be recast as M in the new series.

I forgot who said it, but I remember reading one theory on the multiple actors used in the James Bond movies. The theory was that the moniker 007 and "James Bond" were hand-in-hand code names given out to an individual person. Therefore there are many people who have been "James Bond", while just being one. If that makes sense.

Not sure if Amalgam or davidzuck is right. Either way sounds believable.

I don't really regard the series with a whole lot of continuity in mind. There's multiple actors because the movies have been around since 1962... and actors (and their portrayals) age. It's a nice idea though.

I'm kind of wondering about M. Judi Dench hasn't changed between the Brosnan films and the Craig films, meaning that (although she seems to have far more attitude these days) she still has a good head on her shoulders. I think it would be a mistake to make her out to be some kind of traitor - but I could see someone from her past coming back to bite James in the arse.

Looking forward to Skyfall :)

Doc Horrible, that's an interesting perspective. What what 006 and 009? (9? Right? The one that gets killed by the clown)

@Doc
In the novels there has only ever been one Bond.That's the perspective of the current movies too.The multiple Bond theory is just fanboy speculation.
@Scabsallover
The other agaent all have slightly different rolls and most of them have been named at some point.009 if I remember rightly is pretty much a pure assassin where as Bond is the literal 'Agent Provocateur',sent to stir shit up,uncover the identity of the bad guys,then if necessary take him/her out.More of the all rounder of the 00 section.He's also regarded as the very best shot in the service :)
God,I'm such a geek sometimes lol

Personally, I believe that for the cinematic Bond it is always a reboot (or a partial reboot if there is such a thing) whenever a new actor takes over the Bond role. This gives the latest /new reboot an option to link or tie -up its itself to any of its previous Bond timeline. If you want a more realistic, accurate and historical Bond continuity then refer to the novels where it is not troubled with the limitations of the cinema or the actors who play them. The 007 of the novels is not exactly the same as 007 in the cinema.
