...Stolen Pearl Necklace!

HarperCollins synopsis for the children's book "Batman Versus Catwoman" confirms the speculation that most of us had since we saw Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway) in the first trailer. She stole Martha Wayne's pearl necklace.

There's a ferocious feline in town, and she's out to steal from Gotham's wealthy citizens. Unfortunately, Catwoman makes a mistake when she visits venerable citizen Bruce Wayne and takes Bruce's prized family heirloom. She thinks she made a clean escape . . . but she doesn't know who she toyed with! - HarperCollins

Most of you will say "Ho hum" about this next bit, and I wouldn't blame you. If you've seen set photos or even a still from the film you would know that Bane is going to attack the Gotham Stock Exchange. HarperCollins confirms this attack in their brief synopsis for the children's book "I Am Bane"
Bane is a super-villain with a bad attitude. When he decides to take over the Gotham City Stock Exchange, the city's in big trouble! Can Batman get there in time to save the day? - HarperCollins

The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters July 20th 2012 and stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon, Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate.

wait a minute nailbiter...you're saying that you had to confirm that a thief stole from a rich guy? Huh, what!? Wasn't how these two crossed paths obvious? Or are you just pointing out the pearl necklace connection?

Nothing too spoilerish. Like what it is hinting at between Batman and Catwoman though.

"Huh, that is an interesting theory, but very implausible.

Joe Chill grabbed the pearl necklace off of Martha Wayne's neck which caused it to break. The pearls would have Joe Chill's finger prints all over them and would be used as DNA evidence against him in his trail, which beforehand would be locked away in an evidence room.

I guess considering the special circumstances of the pearl necklace being his Mom's and being such an important figure and part of Gotham City, the police might give Bruce the necklace back after a verdict is reached and Joe's sentencing is over.

Knowing how Bruce is so sentimental, I could see him getting it repaired and keeping it in memory of his parents. All the material possessions of his parents(Dad's stethoscope) burned down along with his mansion in Batman Begins.

It's a long shot, but I think it would be very poignant. While she's going through his room for valuables, she probably steals it without realizing its sentimental value."

Oh wow... apparently long shots are sure things these days. :P

Called it. Check out my editorial article on my predictions for Catwoman in the film.

But why would she wear the necklace in front of Bruce, I mean they dance together?

Fantine - 5/26/2012, 4:07 AM
And a heads up to anyone who can get the screenshot. In the trailer Selina, wearing the necklace is dancing with Bruce. But in the latest TV spot, with Catwoman, when she steals the car, straight after the dance, SHES NOT WEARING THE NECKLACE.

It looks the same as the one Bruce's dad showed him when he asked him if he thought his mom would like it. But, they don't look like the ones Chill tore from her neck. Stunt prop?

@mgeoff88

The necklace would not be locked away in an evidence. Assuming that Bruce wanted it back, it would have been returned. After Chill's trial or plea, there would be no need to retain the property.

Do you think that money stolen by a thief that is subsequently recovered would remain locked away in an evidence room as well?
LoudNoises
LoudNoises - 5/26/2012, 10:07 AM
I suppose when the necklace was ripped off her neck by Chill in BB all the pieces were probably collected as evidence during an investigation. They probably gave it back to Bruce when Chill was caught and the investigation was over. That would be a reasonable conclusion I think.

mgeoff88
mgeoff88 - 5/26/2012, 5:32 PM
@GazelTGM That's true, but if Joe Chill committed more crimes since then and is also being tried for murdering Bruce's parents, that evidence would have to be used again in his sentencing.

You have a confession and DNA evidence, the case is a lock. If the judge wasn't bought by Faclone, he would have gotten sentenced to life.

And no, only if the money had evidence that could connect the thief to the crime.

it´s not the same necklace...Martha´s was destroyed by
Chill in Begins
LoudNoises
LoudNoises - 5/26/2012, 8:33 PM
Yeah I would say that if there was a substantial amount of evidence against Chill such as Thomas Wayne's wallet with all his information inside the pearl necklace would be an unnecessary bit of evidence for the police to hold onto. Especially if They got a confession out of Chill which it's safe to assume they did. I'm sure they returned them to Bruce after the investigation because they are incredibly valuable and when Bruce got older he had the necklace fixed. I'm sure they will have some brief explaination in the film to account for Bruce having the necklace anyways.

@LoudNoises I haven't seen Batman Begins for a long time. I guess, I forget he took Thomas Wayne's wallet.

@balegirlbrazil The stringing wire was destroyed, not the pearls themselves.

I don't know much about this stuff, but I'm sure Bruce could pay someone to restring the pearls or something.
