Did Marvel Originally Plan For War Machine To Kill Justin Hammer In IRON MAN 2?

Storyboards created by John Mann, have revealed an alternate Iron Man 2 scene in which War Machine, played by Don Cheadle, would have shot Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell) at the Stark Expo.

Based on the storyboards created by John Mann, it appears as though Marvel was planning to kill off Sam Rockwell's Justin Hammer character in Iron Man 2. The alternate scene was set to take place at the Stark Expo right after Hammer unveiled Vanko's (Mickey Rourke) armored drones. In the original version, Vanko seizes control of Rhodes' armor and attacks Iron Man. Later we see Hammer trying to figure out how his drones were also taken over by Vanko. He is confronted by Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) and Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) and put under arrest. But in the alternate scene, when Vanko takes control of War Machine he has Rhodes' armor attack Justin Hammer. Since Hammer isn't wearing any type of protective armor, I believe it is safe to assume he would've died.

Below the storyboards you can find a video of the original scene. You can also find another set of storyboards created by Mann that feature the Monaco fight that Iron Man was against Ivan Vanko/Whiplash.

Hmmmmm makes you wonder why they cut this out of the movie. Too dark for the kiddies, perhaps?

Interesting, though they might as well have killed him. I doubt he'll appear in any of the sequels.

Would have been interesting to see if they had put this up.
More importantly, how do you keep finding the bootleg versions of scenes Nail? Lol. Those copies still exist?

Iron man 2 was not even close to as good as the first, I love iron man and I love Mickey but come on let's be serious. I got a good feeling about the third though, should be amazing.

The main problem with IM2 was that it had TOO MUCH going on.

not saying it was a bad idea, but the way the storyboards show it...yeah,it would have been a little too graphical

Hahaha fn dion, blame spy hunter from 198??, my first case of road rage.

Im2 had some great scenes, but seemed unfinished and rushed to me. Some of the cgi looked unfinished and tarnished. But I still pop it in every once in awhile

I agree with them not killing him off. There wouldn't really be any point to it, it would just be a waist of time cause Tony was the main concern. And it wouldn't have made the movie any better doing that.
Also he was a fun character to watch in this film, why destroy any possible chance of seeing him again?

^^ THe cgi was ILM gold, everything looked great, the fight scene's could have been longer, but it didn't look bad at all

Yeah Iron Man 2 is a good movie. Is it great? No. But it's pretty good. Everyone acts like its Ghost Rider status.

Glad they didn't kill him, I like MCU Hammer. And also Ironman 2 wasn't a horrible film, Sure it was the weakest of the MCU movies to date but it wasn't Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

They probably realized that if they kill ALL of IM's villains the potential for returning in sequels nd Avengers tie ins was wasted. Not saying he will be, he probably wont, but its good to keep the options over so you dont paint Joss or other MCU writers into a corner

My only issues with IM2 are the fights are too short, they made it look a LITTLE more cartoony with the colors popping so much (not really a big deal tho) and there was too much Avengers push but tbh i think the MCU was better for the set up at least in terms of prepping normal viewers. If you go back it is actually much funnier and more quick witted with its dialogue over IM 1 which was unexpectedly funny but that doesnt hold up over multiple viewings

I was confused that Hammer wasn't killed off in
IM2.

Everyone knows you can't be in the climax of an Iron Man movie without having an equal or better quality armored suit that can overpower Stark's cutting edge, unequivocal technology.

@poop, rewatch when rhody touches down at the military base with the suit, the beginning where tony leaps out of the plane, two big noticeable spots.

They should have.

God IM2 sucked, thank god IM3 looks MUCH better and I'm positive with Black directing - it will be.

I don't understand where all the hate from Iron Man 2 is from. I mean, there are some really cool things in the film:
-Justin Hammer
-War Machine
-Cool fight scenes
-Great humor
-Scarlet as BW (Am I the only one who thinks she looks better in IM2 rather than Avengers?)
-And Samuel L. Mother-[frick]ing Jackson
What more could you ask for? It was a great movie. And this stuff with Hammer's death is interesting... Maybe they wanted to keep him alive so he can help form the Masters of Evil for Avengers 2 or 3? That'd be pretty cool.

I thought Iron Man 2 was just good but Iron Man 3, I feel, well be much better. Anyone that thinks that IM3 won't be good because of IM2, look at Skyfall.

Is anybody remembering Justin Hammer Swearing he'll be back, REAL SOON! That sounds a little like Marvel building up Master of Evil to me. Justin Hammer, Abomination, Leader, Crossbones, Red Skull, Enchantress, Executioner.

Rockwell owns every movie he does. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Moon, Galaxy Quest, Iron Man 2, Cowboys and Aliens, And recently, Seven Psychopaths! Man... The scene where he mumbles about the shootout... Beautiful.
