In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question 'Why am I here?' Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

Man Of Steel was directed by Zack Snyder, from a script written by David Goyer. The cast includes: Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Russell Crowe, Ayelet Zurer, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Christopher Meloni, Harry Lennix, Laurence Fishburne and Richard Schiff. In theaters June 14th, 2013!

Man of Steel and Star Trek Into Darkness are the BEST movies of 2013, I really hope a sequel and more Superhero soinoffs are being made at WB and Dc with Snyder Goyer and Nolan making them!

Saw it yesterday
the movie was ... good.
Nothing more, nothing less. Good.
Good story, some great acting (Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane), some outstanding performances as well
(Kevin Costner, Russel Crowe and Ayelet Zurer)

Kudos for Goyer for crafting some really good dialogues and adding some really great drama too.
I must say I'm pretty impressed.

Zimmer did a really good job as well.

Some great scenes : opening sequence, tornado, Lois investigation, Kal El dream sequence - just to name a few.
(Zod tv speech and was the highlight. Loved the church scene too)

But man, this movie has one serious FLAW.

THE ACTION

The action in this movie is so over the top it makes Michael Bay cringe.
Everything in this movie blows up. I MEAN EVERYTHING.
Trains, wagons, dishwashers, glass, flowers.
You just painted a fence ? BOOM. It's gone
Fixed that broken window ? BOOM. Superman flyed by.
Nice cat. What's his name ? BOOM. Nevermind
Boy, does in Kansas everything blows ?!

There are so many buildings collapsing in this movie I almost got a seizure.

Some scenes are just pure mayhem. I know Hollywood has a tendency to exaggerate, but hey, there are still some standards.

We got spaceships, jets, bombs, World Engine, buildings collapsing, street fights. You name it. All of it in one (!) 45 minutes long action sequence.

And sometimes you just can't see shit. During the World Engine vs Clark scene i couldn't see god damn thing. Not a god damn thing.
Where the [frick] did the editor go ? Same thing during the street fights.

Effects were good. Nothing breathtaking. Just good.

ufff ....

overall 6/10. Good movie, missed opportunity. Sometimes less is better.

My advice for the sequel : More Nolan (practical effects), less Bay
Not the other way around.

Shannon was good.
Fishburne too.
(still Zod and Perry were a rather one dimensional characters)

As for Snyder - superb job in drama department. Other than that ... meh

I think having a prologue on Krypton where Brainiac steals Kandor would be an awesome way to start the sequel!

Goyer is an awesome screenwritter and just cause a guy writes good comic books DOES NOT mean he can write hood screenplays! I think Man of Steel is an AWESOME AND EPIC way to start a new franchise!

One thing that was kinda weird to me was that Krypton even had any other life on the planet. If they were so desperate for energy that they drilled their own planetary core I expected the planet to be like Coruscant or a industry world in Warhammer 40k with the entire planet being one large city over everything.

@jollem

i don't think the action was amazing. It was over the top. Some touch (even small) of realism would be nice. I know we are talking about Superman but still ...

LordoftheThrones26 - 6/25/2013, 2:53 PM
I hinestly dont get why people are complaining about the action! At least in this ine we see Superman punch someone! And I hate people are comparing this movie to the Donner Superman! This is a TOTAL REBOOT!!! The last time we had a movie like the Donner Superman it was Superman returns and thwt movie SUCKED!! Man of Steel is one of the BEST reboots I've seen and I hope to see many more Man of Steel sequels alongside more Dc hero movie and JUSTICE LEAGUE!!!

I'm sad that it looks like Goyer and Snyder are gonna be in charge of the DC universe. So much talent out there and this is what we get. If Goyer and Snyder do Batman then I'll cry uncontrollably and never watch a CBM ever again.

I do agree with the action being over the top.....but this was the answer to fans who wanted more action in SR!

I am pleased with this movie...sequel will be more balanced!

@Jollem is right.. when you read the novelization you will understand that their animals are genetically altered . Like H'raka has AI navigational systems, a robot dock and some part of it are metallic.

People were so excited for this film that now, they refuse to see the flaws. The action WAS overdone. It was cool at first, then towards the end, it became gratuitous, and it felt like the movie was just obnoxiously flexing its action muscles.
TheWolverine08
TheWolverine08 - 6/25/2013, 3:02 PM
I'm most excited to see the Wolverine! I'm hoping my favorite character finally gets a great movie. Pacific Rim and Thor: The Dark World should be epic too.

nah, i red quite a few back in the days. Not the modern but older ones. Still, don't think there were so many action in any of the modern Superman comic books.

Well okay that's cool if you don't like it. But don't act like we shouldn't enjoy the action just because you don't.
