STAR WARS: Original Boba Fett Screen Test Featuring All-White Costume

STAR WARS: Original Boba Fett Screen Test Featuring All-White Costume

Even though George Lucas and his awful Star Wars prequels ruined much of the mystique, Boba Fett still remains one of the coolest characters in the Star Wars universe. Hit the jump to check out an early screen test of Boba Fett, from 1978.

Many have seen the early Ralph McQuarrie sketches of Boba Fett sporting the all-white helmet and armor. What you haven't seen is the original white Fett costume in action. A videotape was rolling to capture "proto Fett's" reveal to Lucas and company at the filmmaker's home on June 28, 1978. In the video, sound designer Ben Burtt "hosts" Fett's reveal, describing the different weapons, functions, and characteristics of the costume (worn by Empire's assistant film editor Duwayne Dunham for the test).

What's funny is that Boba Fett wouldn't be anywhere where he is today if it wasn't for his toy sales that is the only reason he is up there with Han, Luke, Leia, and Vader. Also what is funny is that Boba is really kinda a bitch in the movies and gets taken out really easy. My friend tells me that the books make him into a real badass but of course in lore importance Movie>Video Games>Television Show>>>>>>Books so they would have no problem in throwing out any established lore from the books.

I think that the prequels are not bad, but they weren't much "Star Wars-ish" they were DragonBall action and too much cgi.

The only one that i visually enjoyed (it was still made with a lot of physical effects) was Episode I.

yeah i know, jar jar... but i can accept that in the star wars galaxy there is some stupid creature, they can't be all ruthless bounty hunters or meditating jedi knights, huh?

It added some nice things to star wars (racing, slave market) and Qui-Gon and young Kenobi were really good.

And the final fight with darth maul was one of the best action scenes i ever saw, really beautiful, it was like a samurai battle, the space and ground battle was good too, but nothing special.

It was more grounded and humble than Ep. II/III and i liked it. Star Wars need to be more like Akira Kurosawa than Naruto

Said this, probably this is the first time i see a batch of concepts that are all really good, maybe i don't like much the white, but whatever.

The prequels deserve a lot of hate now are they the worst films of all time no but they really hurt the Star Wars franchise. The dialogue was atrocious, the plot completely hinged on every character being stupid enough not to see the obvious clues that Palpatine was a sith lord. Anakin was a completely unforgivable character being an overconfident piece of shit that betrayed his friends and teachers and killed many children all on some vague promise of saving Padme's life to only right after he joined Palpatine he learns that Palpatine has no idea how to do what he promised but they might find a way someday. Along with the complete overuse of CGI where I can't even remember a scene with an actual real set on it. I understand to do the things he wanted they needed to use CGI but everything using it was just lazy and had no creative spark to it.

Go watch Red Letter Media's review of all three movies there each about an hour to hour and a half long but well worth it. He goes over just about everything wrong with the films. I am not saying you can't like the films that is fine and again I am not saying these are the worse films ever but you have to see the faults and why some people would not like these movies.

P.S. [frick] George Lucas for saying the original cuts of the first Star Wars movies were to damaged due to the "enhancements" they made which is bull shit he has the original films but just won't release them because all the "extra cool" CGI is how he liked the films.
Hopefully Disney can release the original cuts since they own the rights to Star Wars now we can only hope.

The prequels weren't bad, they were just kinda ok. Lucas should have left the directong to someone else though and the casting of the kid was prettybad.

[frick] Jar Jar Binks in the ass with a dull chainsaw!

After seeing the white design, it makes sense where the inspiration came from for the helmets on the Clone Troopers. Maybe they were a Republic knockoff of Mandalorian helmets like Boba Fett's.

And, seriously, [frick] Jar Jar Binks in the ass with a weed whacker!

I was supposed to hate the prequel trilogy, but i had a great time in the teathers watching them, dazzled by all the alien vistas.

Maybe it´s because i´m a Star Trek fan, and we grown used into forgiving shitty cheap sets because the stories were good and seeing amazingly detailed alien planets on the Star Wars universe were too good to be true.

What do the prequels have to do with a screen test in 1978?

@Starkasm: Nothing, but the discussion spawned from the header of the article. Which reads: "Even though George Lucas and his awful Star Wars prequels ruined much of the mystique..."

I'm with "nailbiter11" on this topic of the prequels. They could have been so much better but i blame Lucas for being to egotistical.

In my opinion, the only good to ever come from the prequels is the Darth Maul character.

I didnt mind the prequels. Of course when you hold them next to the originals theres no competition but theres worse movies out there.

Original Trilogy was awesome but even they had flaws.
Prequels were not that bad & despite not being as good as original movies, they had some cool characters & moments.
Darth Maul is a great villain / character for example.

Hate George Lucas all you want,he created it all.
If you have the imagination, talent & ability to do better then go for it.
Somehow I imagine you will all fail.

Ummmm......@Pesmerga44, they did release the original cuts on DVD a few yrs ago. And they were all out on VHS a long time ago before he ever did the special editions, and more than likely you can still find them on the internet if you really want copies that aren't visually enhanced. So you have no reason to whine about Lucas supposedly keeping the originals out of your hands.

Why do I care what some guy said in an hour & a half video about everything that was wrong with the prequels? If I enjoyed them, and I did, your opinion or someone else's opinion isn't gonna change that. It amazes me how hard people who hate a certain movie will try to convince everyone else to hate it too. What really irritates all the people who hated the prequels is how successful they were, so they've spent the past decade or so doing their best to spread the idea that the prequels were huge flops that everyone hated. Were they perfect? No. But the idea that somehow they lessened the entire Star Wars legacy is the opinion of some, not fact.

@Mrsinister Seriously, yes there was prequel hate but it was mostly butthurt from a few fans that figured out they could make their voices louder than necessary on the internet. Now its taken as fact that the prequels are worthless. They had problems but they also had a lot of good things. I will defend them always, it was a transition period in storytelling for lucas one that was greatly improved upon in the clone wars. People just look for excuses to take respect from people who will always deserve it.

@fettastic, well put! I am one of those kids, I saw all the star wars at a young age and loved them then I saw episode 1 in theaters and loved it just as much to me it was just more star wars. I do like the miniatures and stuff better then some of the cgi because they seem more fun to film, and the craftsmanship in them is amazing.

Not a new video, but very cool to see it again.

@beto

Originally there was to be a team of Supertroopers, 6 I believe, and that's where the designs came from. By the time they reached the final draft, it was only one guy, and he was to be a mercenary rather than an imperial trooper. And that led to the idea of the six bounty hunters.

As far as the prequels, I can appreciate things about them, but I think the plot just got too muddled up. I won't complain about the acting or the dialogue, because it's not that much worse than the originals in a way. I just think there was too much time spent on the boring political aspects. I don't expect it to be left unaddressed, but there are long chunks in all the prequels where nothing really happens. In the original film, it starts off with a bang, and slows down a bit, but once you meet Han Solo, it doesn't lose pace again until the end of the second act...as it should.

I don't hate the prequels. The only reason I don't hate the prequels is because I love Star Wars.

But I can't see Star Wars getting worse than the prequels, though.
