Concept Artist Jared Krichevsky only worked on James Mangold's The Wolverine for a short time, but he created a cool image of Viper (Svetlana Khodchenkova) shedding her skin. While conceptual illustrators, Gerhard Mozsi and Wayne Haag, were responsible for the set designs, that included: the Yashida Compound, Japanese Snow Village, Yukon Town, Funeral Pagoda, Ruins of Nagaski, and the interiors of the Love Hotel.

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he will face a host of unexpected and deadly opponents in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality.

The Wolverine will be directed by James Mangold (Knight and Day), from a script written by Christopher McQuarrie.. The cast includes: Hugh Jackamn (Logan/Wolverine), Svetlana Khodchenkova (Viper), Hiroyuki Sanada (Shingen), Hal Yamanouchi (Yashida), Tao Okamoto (Mariko), Rila Fukushima (Yukio), Brian Tee (Norubo Mori), and Will Yun Lee (Kenuichio Harada/Silver Samurai). The film will claw into theaters July 26, 2013.

beautiful ... I'm waiting for a commentary from Mangold about third act. It seems like the whole ninja fight was cut.
(no motorcycles and Wolverine blowing up the generator stuff)

i had a dream of a viper woman. she was like the snake lady or dragon lady from The Golden Child with a tail instead of a tail with fangs and she was biting men like vampires. they should've went with the same concept in this movie.

Viper was cool, but if they wanted a mutant, why not pick one of the hundreds of characters that are already mutants?

Very nice art. Just don't care for Viper as a character.

can anybody tell me what purpose did it serve for her to shed her skin that was completely unnecessary for the story.

The only thing I didn't like about The Wolverine was Viper. Besides that, the movie was awesome.

@TheWolverine08

there were some other issues.
The train fight was a slightly over the top, the third act was a little bit messy. Wolverine driving 500 km on motorcycle ?
And the little twist at the end ... Yep, i saw it coming.
Still, there was so many effort that they put in this movie ...
You can clearly see how much they just tried to give us Wolverine we trully deserve ...

@Tony

wasn't she wearing a wig ?

i actually liked Viper ... not the best villain ever, but not the worst one either.

As for Yukio ... get her for future X-men movie ...

@Jerryblake I agree that the third act was little bit messy, but I did like that train fight. I lol'd when that Yakuza flew into a sign above the train. I do agree that Silver Samurai twist was a little off, but overall, the positives of this movie outweigh the negatives for me.

i don't thing you need to be worried about Viper character anymore.
Don't think we gonna see her again. Yukio kicked her ass pretty hard.

Viper did not need to be in this movie. The character really brought the whole thing down for me.

I seriously want to see Mangold come back for a sequel. With his talent, I think he can work past the flaws of the first film and give the perfect Wolverine movie. Maybe they can use Omega Red and Sabretooth as villains.
jerryblake
jerryblake - 7/30/2013, 10:19 PM
@TheWolverine08
what i think ... (just assumption)

The third act was rewritten because of the ninja fight.
The ninja fight needed to be cut down because of the PG 13 rating.
The final fight (Silver Samurai) was supposed to be a small act. Kinda like in old japan movies. Nothing big. Minimalistic.
More character driven.

Mangold knew that when he will cut down Ninja fight, there won't be much many action left. So he decided to do the opposite. Make Silver Samurai battle bigger.

jerryblake - 7/30/2013, 10:21 PM
If they gonna go for Sabretooth let them go with Skarsgard.
Otherwise Syberia and Omega Red for the sequel

Funny thing. Shreiber is more bulked up now, during filming his new tv show Ray Donovan, than he was during Origins

Yeah Viper was a let down, she didnt need to be a mutant at all. Loved the actors that played Yukio and Shingen.

Also loved the use of rain in the movie.

Extremely long time reader, first time commenter.

I am completely lost as to why there is even slight dislike to this film. Ok, viper, was mostly, not needed, and the final showdown was not what it should be. But I will say, when SS was drilling into wolvies nubs, I felt it, there was still an intensity about it. It wasn't anything to overly complain about.

The story was captivating. Wolverine was vulnerable, but dude, he never gave up.

This was exactaly how wolverine should be, conflicted, mad, lost, but always with a sense of purpose.

Hugh has set the bar high for himself and anything less in DOFP will be a dissapointment.

Best movie of the summer, best beserker showing yet. I applaud!!!

If she could heal like that, WHY THE [frick] DID THEY NEED WOLVERINE!?!?! Oh I can't wait to see the cinema sin count on this one.

Welcome to CBM Redribbonfan and hope to hear more from you. I liked the movie immensely and thought it was a decent representation of the Japan saga. The hate comes either from those that wanted a direct adaptation or are so called movie critics. Most times I just wanna say

there won't be much sins.
Besides if you like the movie you can explain everything.
I still remember Samuel L. trying to shoot down the jet with his pistol in Avengers :)

IF they do a sequal they should use Cyber he has adamantium skin, claws that secrete an hallucinagen and the ability to stalk his prey by there brainwaves. From what I remember Logan was scared of the guy in the comics.

what's your opinion on Wolverine, bub ?

One more thing. You felt wolverines pain, you felt his conflict within himself, you felt him reasoning with himself between trying to accept life or death.

Can't get over the portrayal of wolvies turmoil. Very well done.

Best all around CBM film since Dredd.

Drink Red Ribbon. I'm out!!
