As you already know, I'm a huge fan of practical effects. One such company that continues to churn out impressive work, is Spectral Motion. You've previously seen their work in Blade II, both Hellboy films, X-Men: First Class, and the two Fantastic Four movies. If you didn't get to see their work on those films head on over to their website, spectralmotion.com, to see lots of behind-the-scenes images from those, and many other films they worked on.

As for today, let's look at a video detailing their animatronic Kaiju parasites used in Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim. They are also referred to as Skinmites, and I guess, Rollie Pollies? Reminder for those that forgot, these are the creatures that live on the Kaiju, much like a Remora fish does with a shark.

Also, we have two sets of behind-the-scenes images. One set is for Ryan Reynolds' stinker, R.I.P.D.. And it features concept art, maquettes, and prosthetics for Deados, seen in the film. While the second batch of images is for the sci-fi time travel film, Looper. These images focus on the coolest death scene in any film from 2013. Which is when the older version of Seth (Frank Brennan) tries to escape his destiny, only to see 30-year-old injuries appearing on his body out of the blue. This is happening because his younger self, played by Paul Dano, is being tortured offscreen.

PACIFIC RIM SYNOPSIS - When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Pacific Rim was directed by Guillermo del Toro, from a script written by Travis Beacham. The cast includes Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman, Max Martini, Robert Kazinsky, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, Diego Klattenhoff, and Brad William Henke. I loved Pacific Rim. It was so great in IMAX 3D. It was like you were in the middle of the battles.

With every behind-the-scenes video I see of Pacific Rim I fall more and more in love with the movie.

The attention to detail is insane.

I love stuff like this, Del Toro has taste and vision.

This is why I love Iron Man (2008), the attention to detail that went into it.
